Are you a gun owner?

There has been guns in my household all my life, but I don't own any myself, even though I plan to one day. And no, I don't think that owning a weapon makes you a bad person. But I'm not too keen on granting anyone access to legal firearms either, not without some prerequisites.

Why does a area need to dangerous for a person to own a gun? The area I live in isn't dangerous, I just like guns and shooting them. Is there some reason I can't have this hobby? I plan to buy a .22 for each of my children that they will have from birth, I also plan to teach them how to use and respect them.

The area being dangerous is the reason quite a few people in this thread own guns. Maybe it's just a cultural difference, but in my opinion buying a gun for each of your children seems insanely reckless, no matter how much you teach them, they're kids, accidents will happen.

This is what I did at the range yesterday, first time I have ever fired a gun so I guess I didn't do to bad. I had a lot of fun, I went with my younger brother and father.

I think so many Americans have guns because we have animals to shoot. I think hunting is a lot more popular in North American than in Europe...

That's why you teach them, I have almost killed myself several times because of accidents. None of those accidents involved guns, my right pinky finger is still numb from a throwing axe that I had that came back at me. There is no sense in fearing a inanimate object just because of what it can do.

Topics related to private gun ownership, whether it be for collecting or personal use have been disallowed. They quickly devolve into posts touching politics, there are different laws regarding this in different countries, this is a 13+ forum and allowing minors to discuss keeping and using a gun is not a good idea, and quite honestly the subject of gun ownership is a touchy subject.
