Does the patch work with my old saves?

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:16 pm

So, is it required (or highly recommended) to start this game from the beginning with a new character after we get the patch? Could the Gstaff clarify this for good, please? I just got my xbox from RRoD maintenance after 2 weeks. I'm itching to continue my adventure with NV but if it's better to start over.. then.. what's the point..

Mods can lock this after we get the answer from Gstaff.

Thank you!

I don't see why you would HAVE to start a new character only because the patch came out...it should really make no difference at all. I'm not planning on starting a new character myself because of that. If it becomes an issue later then sure, start a new character. But its up to you. I can't think of one game that they recommended you start all over because they released a patch.

It really depends on the issue. Sometime issues get baked into a save, and essentially that save is corrupt. If a fix is listed in the notes we posted, it might be worth rolling back to save before the problem started happening.

In other words: the patch isn't going to fix (some of) those problems which are saved with your progress? Is it possible that those issues aren't first visible but still saved making the game glitchy later on?

Thanks for the reply btw!

There are plenty of games where patches don't affect old save games. Or not entirely

I think thats BS, that the corrupted saves are not fixed. I understand you say it can be baked into the save, this issue should have never occurred in the game in the first place tho. Just my opinion.

No use speculating or talking about what "should have" happened though. Once the patch comes out, try and load one of those saves. If it works... awesome. If not... is it really so bad? Even if you "lose" 40 hours, the same people who were claiming they had put 40 hours into it were also saying they'd had the game for a week. That's a LOT of time to play a game in a week, so if you have that kind of time to play a game in a week, is it really so bad to have to spend another week to get to where you were? Won't even take as long since you'll know where everything is.

Yes. It is that bad. I , like another posted has stated, value my time, and if many hours are wasted then that can NOT be a good thing.
