"Escape" Music Category

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 10:36 pm

In Daggerfall, there was different types of music for:
a) civilized areas (various different songs playing in different areas)
B) wilderness
c) dungeon
d) night (?)

In Morrowind:
a) combat
B) everywhere else

In Oblivion:
a) combat
B) towns
c) wilderness
d) dungeons

Essentially, my suggestion is that a new category is added on top of Oblivions, Escape/Chase.

Whenever the following situations are fulfilled, chase/escape music plays:
a) an NPC flees from you
B) you've been caught trespassing by a guard AND
c) you are actively running away from a guard with your weapon sheathed

may I suggest using the bit from Monthy Python and the hunt for the grail, with the bard singing about sir Robin, as model for this? ;p

Yes. Good for the cinematic impression.

I have actually proposed a deeper music customization tool with the Creation Kit (link in my sig). I hope to be able to cue music in all kinds of situations (mostly for designing dungeons and puzzles).

I would like to cue music for single enemies (perhaps a class system that supersedes its own type if there is music for it), enemy types (say Imps in general), music that cues when you flick switches or do certain puzzles. Music that also cues depending on where you are in the dungeon, and even different music depending on region.

The more customization the better because I have a lot of music (much of it VGM that I collect) that I would love to employ in my personal Skyrim experience (as well as releasing public mods).

That's my view of things currently, hope that it isn't too demanding on the devs to implement a deeper customization system.

Didn't Ultima 7 have escape music? It was really cool.

I'm all for this.. a chase can take a while and is a fairly monotonous yet exciting event.. perfect situation for music!

Might be interesting...but I can make a looong list of things I consider more important.

Sounds like a good idea to me, so long as it works well. If it starts playing the second a guard spots me, but stops when I pull out my weapon, the ~1 second of music would frustrate me to no end.
