Good DS games?

Post » Fri Jul 02, 2010 3:26 am

Howdy folks. I recently bought a 3DS. It's pretty neat. Anyway, I had never had a normal DS, and since this is backwards compatible and I know there are TONS of DS games I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations?

I'd really like a nic RPG, but it seems like the only RPGs I can find are JRPGs, which I'm not particularly fond of. Not saying I wouldn't want a japanese RPG - I'm just saying I wouldn't want it if it played like a final fantasy game or something.

So basically, some of my favorite games are (rather obviously): Elder scrolls series, Fallout series, Diablo series. If there's anything even remotely similar let me know.

Also, just any recommendations of good DS games would be nice, RPG or otherwise.

Thanks

Chrono Trigger
DQIV
DQV
DQVI

Sorry, I know you didn't want JRPG's like FF and that's the only reason I didn't list any FF games.

But you should probably get them too.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
Fighting Fantasy
Orcs and Elves.

Be warned, Orcs and elves is only worth about 10 hours, maximum, and has absolutely ZERO replaybility. once you've gone through it, you've literally done all there is to do. I played it once on the hardest difficulty, beat it in one nights worth of playing. It was great fun, don't get me wrong, but after that, well, I'm putting my copy up on E-bay soon.

Chrono Trigger is a JRPG but it's awesome and not really like Final Fantasy.

Summon Night. All of them. Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 for the GBA and Twin Age for the DS. Fun combat, good stories, and weapon forging.

Rune Factory 3. Believe it or not it has surprisingly fun and varied combat with lots of monsters and dungeons and bosses.

Both of them are "Japanese" RPGs, but they're not in any way shape or form JRPGs. They both have real time combat, and don't make use of parties, and have lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of crafting options.

Non RPG:

Mario Kart DS. It's probably THE best Mario Kart right now. On any platform.

Monster Tale. Adorable and classic at the same time. Plays a little like Mega Man, but with elements of Metroid thrown in. Has the added dynamic of the companion that evolves and learns it's own skills to help you.

To add to Steampunks suggestion, I also highly recommend the first two Rune factories.

Both Deep Labyrinth and Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain are first person hack&slash games, so they might be interesting to you. I only played Deep Labyrinth myself out of those two, and to be honest I didn't play it that much :P

I recommend Chrono Trigger, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and Ghost Trick. 2 of them aren't RPGs, but they are very good :P

I ordered Radiata Stories myself a couple of weeks ago but I have yet to recive it. Damn that international shipping :P But that's a game I look forward to a lot :)
