Currency?

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 3:34 pm

A simple and perhaps stupid question... A new minutes ago, I was reading some stuff on the Fallout Wiki. And then I happened to come across this:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Money

According to it, both bottle caps and the NCR's own currency are in use around New Vegas. Soooo... Does this mean there'll be not just one but two currencies in use in the game? And this being shown in all sorts of small says such as, say, NCR people carring their own currency but not caps and vice-versa for, say, people from The Legion? That merchants will ask "So, how'll you pay, caps or NCR money"? That some merchants may refuse using/taking either currency as payment because from their POV, it's almost worthless or a risky currency to use - or they simply want to support their own currency?

It's an interesting idea, having two currencies around at any rate, so I had to ask :)

so far we don′t know anything beyond the fact there be multiple currency, I would assume each trader has there preferred currency and the other has a exchange value

so say you go to a trader that primarily takes NCR coins, he might still take caps, but it cost say 3 caps for each NCR coin.

but that my theory.

In Fallout: New Vegas, each of the three big powers have their own currency. NCR dollars return as NCR's respective money, while Caesar's Legion use "Legion money". The outlying survival communities as well as New Vegas proper still use bottle caps.

Right.. wasn't really answering any of your questions :P

I bet there are some ways to exchange kinds of currency. Maybe the casino's accept all currencies and you can choose the currency of your payout.

Having multiple currencies is fun and confusing but I don't think it's going to be that big of an issue. It's probably going to come down to with what faction your interacting with. If its Legion then your probably going to need legion coins or caps to trade and vice versa with the NCR as you'll probably need to have NCR dollars or caps.

Any math geeks out there will likely prosper in New Vegas. Hell, you could even MAKE MONEY just through exchange!

And if exchange rates change... :hubbahubba:

Heh, it's unlikely... but it's an interesting idea - imagine the exchange rates change depending on which side you help and/or in-game events? And, of course, if there's any moneylenders or the like in the game who each has different offers on the currencies... ^_-
