Sorry guys but I doubt Todd would mentally separate spears and halberds and naginatas, etc. I'm sure when he said no to spears, he meant no to all those things.

but he didnt say no to all of them. he just said no to spears "in a traditional sense" as some have said earlier in this thread i believe we will have pole arms that recycle 2 hander animations. spears (long stick with a sharp point) was only good for jabbing, stabbing, and throwing. swinging it in arks like you would a halberd or naginata would be infective.

Came to think of something: If we have spears in a non-traditional sense -- like halberds and such -- they would be using about the same animations as staves, am I right? Also, we've seen a lot of staves / wands in the screens and concept art released. I think we're gonna see staves with whacking capabilities in Skyrim :D

Some might consider this to be a halberd: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/11/feb/sky2.jpg

I guess it could be a "long axe" but look at the way it is being gripped (the one in the back)

that would be nice. cast spells at some one and then when they get close enough whack them in the face! :toughninja:

Why is this still being questioned? There was one magazine that confirmed polearms already.

I don't remember the name of it, but it showed a diagram of what could and could not held in each hand. Polearms was listed in the diagram, obviously being held by two hands, not allowing a shield or spell to be used. Maybe it was a hypothetical diagram?

Maybe spears are a ranged weapon now. That would be awesome.

Javelin.

And I'd reallly like to see Glaives, they are very pretty. We'll like end up with things like Guisarme, bec de Corbin and Bill designs; ones that have a chopping/anti-cavalry function. I dont think we'll get many of the "Sword on a Stick" ("Sv?rdstav") or "Axe on a Stick" ("Bardiche", "Voulge") variety. Even Morrowind only had really "spear" and "Halberd"

what i'd lie more than spears is just to be able to throw my weapon at my enemy.. imagine,

undead running towards you, u take ur 2handed axe, aim, hold down left mouse button, release, BAAM, right between his eyes.. that'll be priceless

Reuse of two handed weapon animation, so dagger again will have long sword animation I assume?

maybe not cuz beth is trying to make the dagger more usefull including the deadly stealth approach to dagger usage. Might motivate them to make a new animation for it.

The Heart of Lorkhan is gone. Vivec is no different from any other Dark Elf now, if he's even still alive.

On topic, when I first heard the statement about "no spears in the traditional sense" my mind immediately went to halberds or javelins.
