More powerful magic NPCs with LAME

Post » Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:06 pm

So here's the thing. I'm using Duke Patrick's Combat Archery in combination with the FCOM Archery patch, which combined makes archery quite a bit more powerful. As a result, if I can manage to get some shots off, I've usually decimated the room. I like this, it feels much more realistic; enemy archers can do the same to me, and enemy melee can destroy me if they get in range. However, enemy magic is quite underpowered in comparison, and it's easy to pick them off. I'd rather this not be true, so I'd like a way to put magic into the same league as archery and melee. Unfortunately, I'd really rather not give up LAME. So how, then, can I increase the power of NPC mages?

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30973, and maybe load SM after LAME

From what I've heard SM has a customizable ini and you can use it to directly effect the percentage of damage that spells do (ie: you can set it to 300% and have it do 3 times as much... I'm assuming)

Are you using LAME's AddNPCVar plugin? It adds custom spells to enemy NPCs.

Ah, I'll definitely use Fearsome Magicka.

Using SM and LAME together will overwrite the balancing LAME does though, right? I'd prefer to use LAME's balancing and just crank up the damage. Also, can I run Integration when using SM and LAME together?

Madness, I had assumed I was, but taking a quick look at my load order it appears I am not. I'll add it, of course.

Huh? I looked all over for that - do you mean AddEnVar? (adds spells to enemies) I had to look it up in the Readme. Seems like AddNPCVar would actually be a slightly clearer name for it. ;)

I realized I wasn't using that either!

Yes, that's the one. Though honestly, even it doesn't make quite enough changes... You'll find the odd enemy using multiple-summon spells or summoning a ritual dagger - nothing earth shattering.

Another option is to perhaps skip FCOM_Archery and use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31379. You'll get upped damage not only for bows, but for melee and spells as well, while keeping LAME.

Are there any more mirrors for Duke Patrick's? I can't find them on TES anymore. :(

But doesn't FCOM Archery also add additional bows and ammo, and rebalance it all? Ah, all my problems would be solved had I only the ability to customize Phitt's Damage Multiplier with an INI.

I'm not using Fran's so can't use FCOM Archery, but I think it mainly ups FCOM bows/arrows to be as powerful as in Fran's. Don't think it adds anything, it just rebalances bows and arrows. Not an expert on it, though, as I can't use it.

I use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23062, and it works very well - and has an .ini, totally configurable. Excellent, if you ask me. It doesn't modify much the damage done by spells, though - but I'm playing as a spellcaster, with FCOM, LAME (and others), and I find it all very well balanced. I still can get two-shotted at level 20+ by ennemy spellcasters if I'm not cautious, as easily as by fighters or archers.
