Would You Want More Races?

Post » Fri Jul 16, 2010 5:30 am

I think there is enough races. It would be nice to be able to play the Dwarves, or what ever they were called, name eludes me at the moment. So I voted no, no new races. We have what 7 or 8, I think that is enough. Adding more, I wouldn't care for unless it was like the Druegh or something, that is already in TES lore but nothing new, out of the blue.

As for the 2nd question, not sure what it is suppose to mean. If we have 8 now, then of course I want to see all 8 in the game. I do not want to see a missing race that was playable or in the game before.

Dwarves are also known as Dwemer. Also, we actually have 10, at the moment.

I think we should have two new races every game, just like Morrowind's example. Lots of people played Morrowind, and since they added races, let's go balls out and add races all the time. Maybe the dragon brake + chim = new races. Every game we need another few.

What's the facination with the other races of Nirn? Most, apart from the main 9, are either highly elusive/extinct. I love that. Mystery is something that makes TES great. Seeing hundreds of Sload walking down the street would majorly reduce the appeal they have. Not to mention gameplay mechanics. I mean, it's not entirely practical to have an extra race with an entirely diffferent body mass, that needs reskins of every single piece of armour, and absoluty HAS to rely on magic to survive outside water. And then there's also lore to take into account. The Sload mostly practice necromancy, and I believe have some kind of religion about it. I doubt these people would exactly be welcomed by the Empire.

If sload are implemented, I reckon we should see no more than a small village in some swamp. And they should NEVER be playable.

I'd rather stay away from the World of Warcrat style of pandering to the point of lacking any real sense of integrity. Any races mentioned in previous elder scrolls titles are fine, but adding things like Undead Half-elf Lycan Gnome is going to the brink of insanity, jumping off, while racing your own excrement to the bottom of a salted porridge filled crater, lined with hungry jaguars.

I'd quite enjoy to see more hybrids, they are all humanoid so it's possible... I think... Excluding any hybridization with argonians.

How about no elves and more hovering wheelchairs?

Sure as long as they are sensible and go with the lore.. I don't know anything at all about all the races of Tamriel other than those of past games.... but obviously if there are races mentioned about in areas that the game takes place it seems likely I'd want to play that race. I like options and the more options the better. It seems better to have the game actually recognizes that your a demon-monkey-pepper plant-fuzzwonker-noodle rather than have a race modded into the game later by the community and running around looking like a demon-monkey-pepper plant-fuzzwonker-noodle and nobody in the game seeming to notice.

About the only additonal race that I wouldn't mind seeing would be something along the lines of a single Sload or Tsaesci (already parts of TES lore), who could be seen during a quest (like the one distorted Dwemer was in MW). The race shouldn't be playable, at least without mods (and I personally wouldn't use any such mods), because they'd be painfully out of place. Wandering around as a Sload, a Tsaesci, or a Dremora, and not having the NPCs on the street even take notice, much less call the guards or attempt to kill you on sight, would be about as immersion breaking as adding automobiles and laser pistols. Of course, there's a small number of player who'd like to see automobiles and laser pistols in TES, but those are the rare exceptions, and the rarer the better, in my opinion.

There's a book in MW on the physiology of the various races (located in a cave not too far from Pelagiad) which essentially rules out the possibility of half-races, and even explains the "exception", that Bretons are the result of almost continuous interbreeding between "men" and "mer" over many generations (and they're still far more "man" than "mer"), unless Bethesda does an outright "retcon" of it.

I would want to meet a few Sloads / Tsaesci, and maybe play a Kamal - but I don't necessarily need more playable races. I'd just like to meet some individuals from never-before-seen races, especially the Akaviri ones. I just think it'd be interesting to see them and talk to them and learn from them, because so far we haven't actually seen anything but concept art, and for most of the races not even that.
