Skyrim Celebrities

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:33 pm

Would you like to see more people in the world of Skyrim that are famous, celebrities even? The Grand Champion is the only one to come to mind from Oblivion and he didn't even seem to be much of a celebrity. I think it would be great to see people gathering around an individual just to talk to him or see him. What do you think?

I'd like to see well known or famous characters, but not necessarily celebrities. Kind of like how Divayth Fyr was well known in Morrowind and people spoke about him with respect. I like to see such dynamics because it will make the world and the people therein feel more connected.

It's not about voice actors, read his post better.

And this is exactly how it should be implemented :D

Celebrities? You are a Celebrity, hell in Oblivion if you become the Grand Champion you even get your very own groupie to follow you and watch you and worship the ground you walk on.

I think he means more widespread fame than a creepy short guy

Depends on how you define celebrity, it would be cool to see characters who are known across Tamriel for some reason or another such as a famous bounty hunter or a Dunmer Ranger who dual wields scimitars, that being said are there any real noteworthy characters in Elder Scrolls lore?

I must admit the celebrity status wasnt as well implemented as it could have been in Oblivion, your status as grand champion is ackowledged by other characters however as soon as you start a quest they pretend they dont know you. They need to have more variable dialogue for quest givers that can change based on your reputation and titles, it is a bit wierd when a character greets you as the Grand Champion in one line then questions your experience in the next.

Divayth Fyr, and at your above post, this is why voice acting was a bad move :( with text you could have unlimited options (almost) and modders would have an easier job, voice acting works well in games like KOTOR but not in open ended role players

Yes, fame and infamy should also affect NPCs - shouldn't be scripted like in Oblivion. I think this will come with the radiant story.

I second this.

Not only that, but it also makes the gameworld feel less "player-centric". You know, the feeling you get sometimes in games where things seem to happen only when your character is involved. Or every rumor about someone doing something noteworthy is about you. :P

It would be nice if there were more NPCs known for their deeds and eccentricities - I liked how everyone in town had an opinion on Glarthir, although that was only because it was part of a quest. It would be nice if there was a town eccentric who didn't really have much of a role other than being weird. :P I know there are a few of those types round here, and I bet most places have their own slightly odd local "celebrity".

meh, not my biggest interests, I rather see some work on making NPC react more to your reputation, rather having NPC with fame.

I hated the fact in Oblivion that everybody around Cyrodiil instantly knew that I was THE champion, I mean geez, do they have the interwebs in Cyrodiil too?! But yeah, put more "famous" people in Skyrim so that world isn't so [censored] playercentric. If you need to boost your egoism go participate in reality tv.

I don't think we need Felica-Day-level actors and actresses, though they do add alot of flare, its enough that they have Alot of people so that everyone doesn't sound like the same person. New Vegas did phenominal with this, I hope they continue the trend.

Turning this thread on it's head, another thing I would like to see regarding celebrities are more In-Game gossip, grafitti, posts and even statues being made about in-game celebrities. I think there would be Much more gossip and such about the rulers of a particular town (especially inside that town), and all sorts of senseless, arrogant notices and "advice" from ruling families around - as well as some not-so-nice grafitti on walls in the lower districts of the city that chastise them. I imagine it would add more spice to the game, a bit more realism to the nature of big cities and much more immersion.

I felt New Vegas did a better job of adding grafitti to walls, much moreso than we saw in Fallout 3 or Oblivion. I would Love to see about 10 times more of that in the spirit of the day (rants about the king!). :)

If the game is really as good with the NPC AI and quests, I'd hope the acts of famous and infamous peoples are tied into the game.

Well, I'd pretty much like everything of that, BUT NOT GRAFFITI.
I don't want some fantasy world feeling like downtown where I live...

Master class teachers should be treated with respect, if their craft is well known of course. A master smith mayl be well known and should be respected if they live in a town and work for a shop. Talk about good advertising.

While a master of sneek should be litterally unknown except to a select few people. It depends on what they do.

I'd like to see factions show more respect for specific people. Its not like we're the only guys fighting stuff out there. I think Skyrim will have this, they all ready teased us saying they were really proud of how they got factions to work in skyrim, so we'll have to wait and see what they're so proud of.

the reason there were not celebrities like this in early times was because of the lack of pictures ad video. and the slow news travel. big time celebrities need a way to have their face well known by all otherwise people just see drawings of them and might say. oh that guy looks kinda like so and so. its kinda impossible. only people to really know wuld be people of that town or city. so u have to be well known. just like in the movies about old times there is always a guy who says " ey bud dont u know who i am. i am so and so of the w/e clan" and then a guy goes...nuhuh...then he gets pwned...then everyone is like oh it really is u. u do look like the painting a bit. and paintings were overlyglorious. so yeah. celebrities doesnt make much sense.
