Lost in texture replacers

Post » Tue Jul 20, 2010 12:18 am

Hey, so, well, I installed QTP3 Redimized and on top of that, lite version of QTP3 Reduced, but now I'm lost in all that LOD crap... First, I want to use something for my mid-end computer - 2GB RAM, Radeon HD4850 512MB, C2D 3.0GHz CPU and 23 inch monitor which is 1920x1080 resolution (important, greater resolution means more VRAM used so I need all the performance I can squeeze out of Oblivion and mods). So, what could be best for my computer? What do I need to install? There are some LOD, color maps, normal maps, noise filters, and that TES4LODGen, but it isn't written anywhere about how big are textures created by LODGen, so I don't know if it'll run well on my computer.

Check this out for world texture replacers: http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/totoworld.html
This explains different lod combinations: http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/lod2.html

I use:
  • QTP3 Redimized
  • Optimized QTP3 meshes (PyFFI'ed them but they are also available at tesnexus)
  • Bomret's SI Texture Pack
  • Landscape LOD - Border Regions 2048x2048 by Blade9722
  • Landscape LOD - 2048 by Blade9722
  • Landscape LOD - 2048 Qarl Normal Maps

It doesn't explain to me. As I've written, I already have world texture replacers, problem is that LOD thingie. Dunno what's best, LODGen or some other thing, do I need color maps (? wtf ?) and normal maps, or either of these...

Tes4LODGen is practically a requirement, get it.
But that only works on the LOD files you have, so those suggested and linked to above are good examples of what you want. TES4LODGen will just make them all look good ingame.
