Well, traveling through planes was the whole point of Oblivion, but there always where tiny bits out of Tamriel in the other ones. So maybe in a quest or two, but nothing major if you ask me.

Eh, I want to note that Mehrunes Dagon's realm was only one of the planes of Oblivion (though I can't remember the name). Oblivion is more of a term that describes all of the Daedric realms and voids in between outside of Nirn.

I don't know, but game developers have for a long time used "magic" to take the players outside the immediate game world..
I think it's because they get bored with just looking at the same scenery day in and day out.

Take BG:2, Icewind dale + 2, BG dark allience + 2, Morrowind, Oblivion.. probably more that I can't recall.

However my advice / wish / hope / desire to game Devs.....
Why do it a little bit as a tease....
Just please, please, please buy the rights to Planescape: Torment and make a fantastic completely polished wonderful fan driven game based in that setting.

Oblivion is not necessary hell.

It would be cool if there was something like that in Skyrim, but than it should be better done than Oblivion, where everything was pretty much the same all game through. The devs should try to catch the mystic feeling of actually being in another realm.

The Oblivion realm was not bad, just a bit monotonous
