Getting a Board Message after logging in

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:20 am

Ever since the board update, I've been getting http://oi51.tinypic.com/2evsv0y.jpg stating that "Sorry, we could not locate the page you are requesting to view. Please click here to return back to the forum's home" whenever I log in.

That's odd. I'll pass it on to the system admin, what browser are you using?

Firefox 4.0, though it happened on the latest 3.x version of Firefox, too.

I keep getting logged out every 5 minutes after the update happened.

It looks like you need to update your bookmark for the forum, it's pointing to a link that doesn't exist anymore -- the forum structure was significantly changed an update or two ago. They probably recently removed some of the soft-links that they had as a stop-gap after the change.

I could have sworn I did that before. Maybe I added it then deleted the wrong one....

But why would my old bookmark still bring me to the Community Discussion page, then after I sign in, I get the message?

As I said in my edit (wasn't fast enough) they had soft links (symbolic links) in place after the changes to keep -some- level of compatibility with existing links. After the change links to specific threads would instead go to the subforum's first page, but with a deformed URL (IIRC). After you log in, the log in tries to take you back to the page you were originally viewing and the forum doesn't know where that page is anymore, as it can't find the location.

Granted, I could be completely off base, but that is the only logical conclusion I can reach for the problem.

Change your bookmark to this: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/18-community-discussion/ and see if it still happens. Maybe call it Community Discussion 2.0 so you don't get it confused with the old one (or just edit the old one)

Right after I posted, I deleted my original bookmark and added a new one and it works fine. I just could have sworn I did it right before haha.

And yeah, that makes sense. Thanks for the help.
