ive got a "noob" question

Post » Sat Jul 31, 2010 10:18 am

My ps3 only came with the regular video cable, the red yellow white one. But ive noticed that my friends games look way better. Now, im confused as to which cable I should get, or which cable looks better for that matter.

Should I get the HDMI cable or the HD component one that has red yellow white plus another two??

EDIT:

yes, my tv supports HDTV

HDMI. As its meaning suggests, it's the modern de facto standard way devices such as gaming consoles and DVD/Blu-ray players connect to HDTVs. It is used to transfer both video and audio signal so it is the only cable you need (apart from the cables which provide your HDTV and your console with electricity, of course).

If your TV supports 720p or higher, get HDMI.

Otherwise, stick with the standard cables.

It needs to be 1.3 to run in 1080p though.

 I think even 1.0 runs 1080p...but you can buy a 1.4a for less than 20 euros anyway (not that you ever need of those but stilll <_< )

I bought a PS3 and HDMI. Got home and... spots all over the screen. Walked down to the store and "yeah, you need a 1.3 to make it run in 1080p." It was quite expensive back then. Hooked it up. Greatness.

If you get anything more expensive than http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189053, you're doing it wrong.

Is there really a difference in quality? I use the component cables that came with my 360 for my 42 inch vizio in 1080p and feel it looks great.
