Modding my game (help?)

Post » Tue Aug 03, 2010 9:41 am

Hey everyone. I have played a lot of oblivion in the past, but not with much modding (other than little things). My computer is getting fixed and sped up tomorrow and I plan to heavily mod my game this time around.I have a LOT of mods in mind but my inexperience makes me unsure just how wise it is to have this many mods, how they work together, and load order. So here they are in no particular order (long list):

Natural Environment

Unnecessary Violence

Atmospheric DarkUI loading screens

Ren's Beauty Pack

Map Marker Overhaul

BOSS

Addonays Elven Weaponry

Wrye Bash

OBMM

Stealth Overhaul

Crowded Roads

Enhanced Grabbing

Unique Landscapes

Akatosh Mount

Update My statue

Advanced magecraft

Ancient Towers

Bartholm

Kvatch Rebuil

Stutter Remover

Armamentarium

Armory Lab

EyeCandy

Lost Paladin of the divines

Elswayr Color Maps

Oblivion Crash Prevention System

Armory of the silver dragon

Unofficial Patches (+SI)

Elaborate Eyes

Transfer Enchant

Streamline

City Life

Visually Enchanted Customizer

3 alternative stories

DarkUld DarkN

PJs spell compendium

Expanded Hotkeys and Spell delete

Better Cities

I know some aren't actually "Mods" but I put them there just incase anyone knows something doesnt work with something else. I know it's a huge list but if people could throw in their opinions, and even better, tell me if anything conflicts/needs a specific load order, that'd be great.

Also, I know FCOM and OOO aren't up there, because I dont know if I want to use them yet. Does anything on that list conflict with it? Thanks a lot in advance.

I would seriously suggest you don't bother with unnecessary violence rc1 (the currently available version) It has a lot of bugs, and is difficult to set up - especially for a beginner).

Best to just hang on for version 2 - it won't be long now.

I'm not sure how well city life works with better cities (as city life is fairly old now).....It could work fine, but double check on that/wait for someone more clued up.

Yeah I read about UV version 2 just after I posted this actually and can't wait! Will it be able to be applied to an existing game or will I have to start a new character?

And I can probably go without city life if I must.

Yeah, you can plug it into an existing game just fine.

As to city life - it works fine for better citeis, but you need to use the replacement esp included in the better cities download.

Remove Oblivion Crash Prevention System.
Its not necessary and it causes more problems and CTDs.

Also you should try using:http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305

I just went from a small set-up (like the one you describe) to quite an extensive LO (MMMforOOO + many more mods). I found this site incredibly useful, you should bookmark it & make it your first port of call as it will cover many questions that are no doubt whirring around your brain! http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/ (anyone would think I'm sponsered by Tomlong! lol). I see you have Wrye Bash & BOSS on your list......this is good! Once you get your head around the bashed patch it will address (for the most part) the issue of compatibility.

Good luck & have fun!

EDIT: & don't worry too much about load order, if you use BOSS it will order your mods for you! (it will also import bash tags for use in the bashed patch & other handy hints)

If your thinking what the **** is a bashed patch, don't worry just check the site I linked, contains info on all this & much more.

Does OOO (or FCOM) conflict with any of those mods or do they generally not conflict with anything?

Most mods don't conflict with overhauls such as OOO/FCOM and those that do often have patches. In your case most are fine. I think Kvatch Rebuilt, Better Cities and a couple of the UL's need/have OOO patches but not sure on details as I'm not using them. Also, some mods such as Armamentarium have tailor made esp's for OOO/FCOM.
