How will Brink be reviewed and received?

Post » Wed Aug 04, 2010 1:20 am

The name explains the thread, how do you think Brink will be reviewed by critics and gamers. Personally I think it will get very mixed reviews. I think it's a specialty game because it involves a lot of teamwork and you won't just be busting OHKs all the time. I think it will be kind of like MAG because if you play it right, how it was meant to be played, than you're going to have a blast, but the people who can't do anything but kill are going to level up incredibly slowly and be really annoyed. There will be some professional reviewers who love it but some who think it's kid of "meh" and then the ones who think it's just awful. I think it mostly depends on who you are and what you enjoy playing and if you can play a very teamwork oriented game. Ultimately, I think you'll have to judge for yourself whether you think it's good or not because like a lot of games with new ideas that may or may not pay off, some people will love it and some people will hate it.

P.S. I also know that some people will think it's good but not great. I want your opinion on how Brink will be received and reviewed.

I'll be writing a review of Brink myself.

Might be doing so on an official level, but I don't know as yet.

If not, I'll write a reader review somewhere anyway.

I intend to look at the game from the perspective of Fun > all else - because that's what matters at the end of the day, right? Beyond that, it's mostly about how well the game does what it sets out to do.

I think it will be recieved surprisingly well. Its a break from the COD genre. A lot more people are looking for team based game of this caliber then most think. I know more and more of friends are buying it because it is something new and exciting and I think it will show in the reviews.

I myself am hoping to find a new and exciting clan warfare game in BRINK. I bought SOCOM 4 and while it's fun the PSN is down... so I'm buying this for the PC... or MAYBE the Xbox 360. I haven't decided as of yet. Most likely PC though.

I think it will do well from the information I've been seeing. Plus I love the developers and have faith in them 100%

I suspect the gaming media will receive Brink very favorably as the gameplay and aesthetics are fresh and I suspect it will be finely tuned and fun to play.

As for the gaming communities, yes there will be a lot of people turned away because it's not their style of FPS but I don't think this will be terribly problematic. I suspect those that do get Brink will enjoy it as much as the reviewers.

I can see IGN saying it's going to be repetitive and boring already.

Personally, I think that the 'professional' reviewers will judge it pretty well, as they should be (or at leas try) pretty objective. So I think they'd be able to appreciate the FANTASTIC art style of Brink, the 'new' type of online play and the unique mingleplayer.

On the other hand though, I think it will probably bomb with the 'casual' gamer. Which I don't mind too much about either (better community :celebration: ) as it actually dares to step away from the trend. And all the cod boys and so on will give it a go, and enjoy it sure, but find no lasting appeal for loads of the reasons stated above.

So all in all, I'd be pretty happy.

But we *DO* want enough people to purchase/play Brink that is economically feasible for Splash Damage to make us another one. :tops:

Brilliant.

Well, we don't know the scores until they are posted. This is some pretty big speculation xD

I'm expecting a slew of 8's and 9's from the *cough* professional gaming media. I think what Brink brings to the table is going to be received as fresh and original with a unique art style that works well with the games mechanics.

Call of duty players, the ones under 12, will hate it because teamwork simply isn't something that appeals to them. One shot quick scoping headshot kills, yes. Working together to complete an objective, no. But I think people are looking for something different, more willing to give new IP's a try and I think Brink will go down very well with them. It may be a slow start but word of mouth will do this game wonders I think.
