Pre-War Money

Post » Wed Aug 04, 2010 8:24 am

I've been collecting Pre-War Money. Should I sell it or is it used somewhere?

Same question about Pre-War Books?

As you can tell, I'm thinking of how the Brotherhood of Steel paid a premium price for the books in FallOut 3.

I sell pre-war money. It is weightless so it has a good caps to weight ratio.
At first I thought I should collect the books, but there are far too many of them. I am thinking they are not going to be valuable at all.

The Casinos will accept Caps, NCR money and Legion coins for chips, so you might want to keep the NCR money and legion coins. I have not found anyone in or out of the BoS that collects books - not even Veronica the ex-scribe.

Thanks Buds.

So the Pre-War item thing is a Capital Wastelands only thing from FO3.

He meant Pre-War money, which is economically unaccepted by other settlements now.

Probably because D.C. got hit a lot harder and there were less pre-war stuff that survived.

Spread it around your home. Scatter it on the couch, the tables, the bed. That way when you bring the ladies* over, they will think you are a potential Sugar Daddy.

*Or, the men will think you are a Sugar Momma.

Well, it's worth a lot less than even say, the NCR money, but I never noticed anyone complain when I pay them using a wad of pre-war bills.
I've often tried to compute the value of a single pre war dollar, but the estimate ends up being different every time because it's impossible to know exactly how many bills are in each wad, and what they are valued at.
Then again, it might be that since the money lost its government backed value, that a 20 dollar bill is equal to a 1 dollar bill.
Of course, people might again be conscious of the face value of prewar money considering that NCR money is so similar.

I save any weightless ("--" in the WG field) items like that as a rainy-day fund. In FO:3, I would usually stash it in a briefcase in the Maintenance Shed mod so I could amuse myself by having a briefcase full of money. When I ran across something at Moira or the roaming traders that I absolutely wanted and couldn't afford, I would go raid the briefcase and come running back with a pile of pre-war cash in my hands to barter with.

Looks like it's just another form of loot to sell for caps in FO:NV, just like it was in FO:3.

I think all the pre-war books laying around was a bit of a joke on players of Fallout 3 by Obsidian. When I first saw all the pre-war books in Doc Mitchell's house, I was thinking "cha-ching! money!" and scooped them all up into my inventory. I doubt a new player, who hadn't played Fallout 3, would have had the same reaction. So if there's no place to turn them in for more then a handful of caps each - Obsidian's playing a joke on the older players.
