Before I Buy The Anti-Material Rifle...

Is it worth it? I've been rollin with my cowboy repeater and scoped hunting rifle and rebar all game. Is it a significant upgrade? Will it decimate a deathclaw?

Yes. Not necessarily. Yes.

The DPS it puts out is pretty low, but it can one shot most enemies with a sneak crit, and its sway and spread are so low you can snipe enemies as far as your draw range lets you.

I'm guessing you haven't been fighting enemies with them (NCR), so before you buy, you could try going to Hidden Valley and letting a Paladin snipe you. It's not exactly the same thing (like 2/3 of the base damage I believe), but it'll give you an idea of what a weapon like that could do with upgraded ammo, maximum skills and perks.

Also, one of my favorite weapons in the game is the La Longue Carabine, a fully upgraded Cowboy Repeater with better stats and a scope. You could look into that.

Where can I find that la longue gun? I want to give these deathclaws some payback!

The AMR did not impress me. Yea, it can hit hard, but it's only really good for sneak attack crits. If the enemy notices you, you're better off just hitting them with a plain (or modded) sniper/carbine. The weight of the ammo and the seemingly random damage (I've hit folks for almost nothing with it) makes it a waste of space in my book.

i love the .50 and the incendiary rounds are pretty cool as well but it has a big price tag, i find a hunting rifle with special ammo more than sufficient to deal with deathclaws

Crafting the "Match Handload" ammo for it will increase the damage by 15% and reduce the spread by 35% (less DT deduction).

I have a Crit/sharpshooter build and this weapon along with the "This Machine" will be my long ranged weapons and I plan on using the "All-American" auto for up close work.

The ammo is extremely heavy in hardcoe mode, so that is a negative if you use that mode.

The Gunrunners should have both ammo and supplies for making your own. If your level is high enough that they carry the AMR.

I didn't see any ammo for it just the four bullets that come with it...

Did you wait 3 days and go back to them, so their inventory respawns?

No but there was no ammo for it to respawn to begin with...just the four bullets the rifle came with.

The 'All-American' is Semi-Auto, and has a Scope. May want to rethink you CQC choice. It's more of a good gun to use after you hit an enemy with a Sniper, and then all his friends start closing in on you. Then switch to your shotgun/melee if someone ever makes it all the way in.

Also, to the guy asking about ammo, the AMR takes .50 MG rounds. The Gun Runners should sell them, if they don't then sleep for 2 or 3 days in your safehouse and check again, and they should restock with some. If they still don't have it, well... then you need to level up some more and come back later.

I'm level 22...do I have to sleep in a safehouse or cam I just wait?

Thanks for the clear-up, and yes time for some re-thinking on that. Maybe a Riot shotgun would be the better choice, but idk.

I don't think they restock if you're near them while you wait. You'll probably have to be at least a loading screen away from them.

Haven't used a Riot Shotgun yet, but I've been switching between a pretty basic Assault Carbine (Extended Mags has been the only mod I can find for it thus far) and a Hunting Shotgun with a Choke (reduces spread) and Slug Rounds (Reduces spread even more!) for CQC. The Hunting Shotgun in this set-up is pretty ridiculous, and you can even use it like a rifle because of how accurate it gets, and it's AP cost per use is low enough that it still works well enough to VATS a couple enemies in CQC when you get rushed. (Reload time is the only pain).

Ya, the only downside I see to a shotgun of any type, is that I did not plan on taking the Shotgun Surgeon perk, so now I am trying to work that into my build somehow. Thank you for your input, it has helped.

i've been using my modded sniper rifle for everything, even up close combat i find it hits harder and more accurately than a shotgun, and i gave one to boone as well, he shoot fast and accurate, between the two of us we can take out most enemies before they reach us

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I don't have it either though.

As long as you're not planning on getting in a scrum with some Giant Radscorpions or Deathclaws, then it works great even without the perk. And as long as you don't jump right into the middle of a whole pack of 'em, the AMR should be able to take out the big game when you do plan on taking some out.

If you're still apprehensive, just do what I do and carry the Assault Carbine and a couple hundred 5mm AP rounds around with you for emergency use.

You could also try looking for .50 MG ammo at the 188 or with the Brotherhood.

You can wait on top the guy if you want. Just wait a day then check cause sometimes they are only a day away from restocking but when they do its every three days but again u dont gotta go nowhere, just wait there. I do that many times and get a ton of ammo when needed, i go to trade caravan and gun runners
