Anybody dislike the character creation system?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:23 pm

so far the descriptions of the new CC system are exactly what you want.

I was laughing when I read the OPs post, not because its a bad idea but because of this. Its exactly described this way. Hilarious.....Op can you predict more game mechanics for us please? :P

I actua;ly enjoyed playing around with the sliders, if you knew all the little tricks you could get some interesting results(mostly ugly).

I hope for TONS of premade designs and plenty of sliders.

I like to pick through presets then fine tune them to what I want.

I really liked the system from Oblivion and Fallout. The new one sounds like it could be good, or it could be too Dragon-Agey.

from whats been said by todd and others it sounds like that won't but a problem any more. I don't have any visualization in my own head as how they will do this tho. imo i hope they don't get ride of sliders tho, I like being able to do things like make hair doos longer.

From the way Todd Howard describes it, Skyrim's system is exactly the one you wan't -- prebuilt shapes (i.e; noses) with only a few sliders (i.e; positioning).

Frankly, I don't like this new system from the sound of it (what Todd said) -- if you don't have as many configuration options, then that limits the uniqueness of NPC faces as well as your player's face. Meaning, we'll see a lot of shopkeepers, questgivers, soldiers, etc.. that look alike.

Although you might find it simpler to make a character, it comes at the sacrifice of seeing a lot of everyday folks with the same face.

The developers arn't shackled to CC system that we are, so it won't effect the NPC's variety except for maybe the hair styles. Though even some games like Mass Effect will give NPC's unique hair as well.

I mean the system most games use today to alter the physical appearance on your character, all those sliders and stuff.

I just kind of find it frustrating. No matter how long I take my character always ends up looking lopsided and goofy. I usually just end up hitting random for a couple of minutes until i find something I like.

Now I'm not saying we should get rid of it altogether. I'm just proposing they implement a simpler way of making a character.

Like if you wanted to change your nose, instead of making you toy with a bunch of sliders, the game gives you a bunch of different, pre-made noses. They'd have a Small Nose, Button Nose, Crooked Nose, and so on. Pretty sure they could give them better names, like how they name the hair styles in Fallout. I'd much rather use a system like that to make my own character. Just mix and match stuff until I find the right combination.

Again, I'd make this optional. You can still use the sliders if you want.

Dude, I can tell straight away you did not listen to the podcast, because that specific topic was covered. Quotes:
"... the running joke was that we called the Random button the "Ugly button"..."
"... whereas now you can be pretty certain that no matter how much you play around with your character's appearance, you'll allways end up with something that looks good...."

It was not impossible to make a good looking face in Oblivion, the system just wasn't very cooperative. In Fallout 3 the system was much better and much easier to deal with, same thing with New Vegas, still not great, but better. I'd like to have as much contorl as possible, though it seems they're going with a more restricted system that will prevent you from making characters that are simply unrealistically ugly, which is a good call.

Yes. I hate TES VI and TES VII's, too. I need to stop time-travelling. :P

They could of course do like they did with hair color (I wanna write "colour" but these forums are too American to let me do that without giving me a evil red underline D:) where they let you choose colors (colours D:) and if you did not like any of the custom colors (D:) you could use sliders to make your own.

In the same way they could have a few custom noses and then if you don′t like any of them let you change your nose with the sliders.

I do the same. At the end of the day I play in First person and stick a helmet on them so I don't see the face anyway.
