Am I the only one that liked Fallout Tactics?

I always see people talking about F1 and F2...did nobody here like Fallout Tactics?

Because I enjoyed it a great deal.

I enjoyed it as well.

The issue with the Tactics hate from a lot of the hard core 1&2 community is that they would have rather had a true Fallout 3 along the same lines as the first two instead of a tactical squad based game.

I enjoyed it well enough. It was a good tactical game, but it was a completely different genre from the originals. Like many others, I would have chosen for Black Isle to make another Fallout RPG rather than a tactics game.

Tactics was created by a company in Australia for BIS(from what I remember), and was a spin off with a very specific direction and agenda. It was fun and I think was more of a proof of concept of having a real time based game that used an action points(which I wish Bethesda did with Fallout 3 and not just restricted action points to VATS only), but left in the TB mode as not to tick off the Die hard fans.

Tactics was great, right up there with the X-com series, but I liked their continuous turn mode much better.

I also enjoyed a mix of Fallout, Though I do wish they would have been able to finish the game properly. It was an unfinished game imo.

Tactics was made by 14 degrees east and yeah, I thought it was awesome. Personally I don't think it shoulda been thrown out as cannon. Entire aspect of what how the brotherhood of steel functions changes depending on your actions so there's that part of fallout. Multiple weapons, skill and character development worked well, and it was focused on the brotherhood of steel.

No, it was made by MicroForte, an Australian company. 14 Degrees East was Interplay's strategy division and only supervised it.

I enjoyed Tactics.
To me it was a logical variation of the Fallout game that fit the BoS. I remember I had much fun driving my armored carrier around with my men shooting out of it - actually I remember that I never fired the tanks main cannon, if there was serious opposition my men used stealth to get into position and then sniped the enemies.

Tactics was great, although the points allocated to the gear and races in multiplayer was alarming arbitrary, resulting in lots of overpowered and underpowered gear relative to point cost. I completely agree with the assertion that Bethesda should have adopted the continuous turn based system for use in Fallout 3 so that Agility would retain a meaningful role outside of VATS.

I hated Fallout Tactics. It had all of the crap I didn't like about Fallout 1&2 (turn based combat mainly), with none of the good stuff (sweet dialog trees, good story, lots of options for evil, good atmosphere).

You know that was optional right?

Edit:

I actually only used Turn Based one time on my first play through and it was when I was protecting the Ghoul building with the nuke in it from the Super Mutant Charge. Having to defend three entry points was a bit tricky if you were not prepared :P

Yeah, but the real-time mode was an even worse hack than VATS is for Fallout 3.

really? I thought VATS is great and I loved tactics real-time mode. After playing tactics fallout 1&2's combat system felt slow, flawed, and boring.

Ah I am starting to see a pattern in your posting on combat systems :P

Stay away from the turn based games!

I _REALLY_ liked Fallout Tactics ...

I was REALLY hoping that Fallout III was eventually going to be a "merger" of the two ...

Meaning, story-line gameplay like a regular RPG but the combat engine that was in FO1 and 2 be effectivley replaced by the one in FOT, so you basically had the best of both worlds.

Guess that was never to be though, so now we have a buggy [censored] ass "Oblivion with Guns" game that you can't even finish the main quest with if you don't have the "right" Xbox360 apparently.

I waited 8 years for this too. Wonderful

I enjoyed tactics, but its primary focus was only on one aspect of previous fallout games - combat. Playing fallout tactics was alot like playing "commandos:behind enemy lines".

I loved it. I didn't mind the lack of RP elements, because it was a really good strategy game.

I first tried playing it on CTB, but that just ended in a lot of reloading and frustration.

Tried it again on Turn-Based and got hooked from there. I was better able to coordinate my troops, and I love it when a good plan comes together.

I only played the demo but I thought it was a very fun and entertaining game. Completing the two demo missions took me about 2 hours because I wanted my plan to be perfect without having casualities or minor injuries. :P
I'd give a try to the full game if it was still on the shelves. (I don't buy from the Internet)

I also loved Fallout Tactics. As I had been playing a lot of Jagged Alliance after I finished F2 I found it great fun and a fine meger of the Fallout genre and squad based tactical combat.
