FCOM vs Single overhauls

Post » Sun Aug 15, 2010 12:04 pm

Hello all,

I just built a new system that is pretty robust, but I have windows 7 and am not sure if learning how to install a complicated mod like FCOM would be worth it or not, when I can get like MMM working with just an OMOD.

What do those of you out there think about FCOM? Have you installed it on Windows 7? Any tips and advice are always appreciated.

FCOM's great, but only if you end up liking it. I do, but I'm not you. ;)

For any mods, and even just games themselves, try installing another place - rather than Program Files or Program Files (x86), that is - and you will avoid most or all related issues anyway. Thatt's nothing to do with FCOM in particular. Just good advice, regardless, with W7.

edit: I always use C:\Games\... - but other folders should be fine, outside of Program Files or other protected areas.

I've got FCOM installed on Windows 7.

It works fine as long as you don't install Oblivion in the Program Files folder, I use C:\Bethesda Softworks\...
Just follow the directions on how to install FCOM and it should work on Windows 7. At least it did for me.

You should look into Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO) before thinking about FCOM, since FCOM uses OOO as the base.

If it's worth it really is all about if you like the way it changes the game. Personally i don't use it because frans and ooo are different philosophies on how the game should have been from start. Combining them is just weird for me, but if you like the ooo way then it wont really hurt, but i feel ooo makes the fran changes a bit pointless. Just personal opinion though. Both mods are great at doing what they are supposed to do. So yeah you just have to try and figure out what it is you want to change about the game and how. Then you will know the answer yourself.
