I did, too. Really dig that one. But I hearsay the first one has outrageously bad voice acting in the English version, is that true? Might put a lot of people off, since this series has such a strong connection between sequels, unlike most other Japanese ones.

I recall one scene where this old lady was telling some boring story with god awful voice acting. But I don't remember much other voice acting at all.

Yes, the first one only has some voice-acting during certain cutscenes, the rest is told in text boxes. I had a listen on YT. By all that is holy on Olympus, this is bad stuff. And it seems the battle after that cutscene has Japanese voices. What the heck is up with that?

It does have horrible voice acting but luckily there is not much of it and most of the game is text dialogue

ARGH! Dispense with the silly US numerology; it's FFVI! Call it what it is. Especially since all the previous ones, including the proper FFIII, have been re-released.

It says Final Fantasy III on my cartridge!!! :swear:

Kidding though, but do they sell it in the US under the Final Fantasy 6 name? I wouldn't know, and that's pretty much why I've always said that.

Not the SNES title. There's a Final Fantasy Anthology disc for the Playstation and I imagine they call it FFVI on that, since it contains both FFV (which was previously Japan-only) and FFVI.

Back in the old SNES days, FFIV was released as FFII in USA, and FFVI as FFIII both them heavily censored,..... until the PSX/GBA re-releases toned down the censorship

As for FFV for PSX, it was badly translated, glad that the GBA port fixed that

Hmm, as I don't really consider Secret of Mana to be a JRPG in the regular sense of the word(yes, it comes from japan, but it has real time combat, and only minimal amounts of armor choices to choose from), I won't list it on this list.

Dragon Warrior IV is probably at the top of the list. I remember having so much fun with this game back when I was like 8 or 9, and all throughout my teenage years. It unfortunately disappeared along with a host of other games I used to have, but I have since rebought it for the DS(Can't say I like it as much on the DS, there are significant dialogue differences, and the encounters seem significantly easier then they used to be).

Followed by:

Earthbound
Chrono Trigger
Breath of Fire 2
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy III(6 in japan)

Followed by:
Dragon Warrior 1 and 3
Final Fantasy 2, 7, 8
Secret of Evermore
Breath of Fire

Lol, considerably laxer standards back in those days when it came to video game ratings. Some of the games I played when the ESRB was first introduced, would probably have higher ratings put on them nowadays.

FFVI wasn't heavily censored. There were a few things (pub to cafe, swear words replaced with other stuff, holy renamed to pearl, a nvde summon lightly clothed instead), but nothing like with some other games. The biggest censoring to hit FFVI was the GBA release. There's a scene where a character is beaten while chained. While brief, this was removed due to kidnapping incidents in Japan, and the censoring carried over to the overseas releases.

Honestly even though the translation is better, I just can't stand how the GBA version BUTCHERS FFVI's music. Some of the best video game music of all time in my opinion... and they subjected it to the GBA's sound system. :(
