BRINK Game Event - Frankfurt, Germany

Post » Sun Aug 29, 2010 1:06 am

So I was informed today that there was a game event for BRINK in Frankfurt this evening and an ESL (Electronic Sports League) member was there to play it, here are his impressions (translated):

Played today ... on XBox, but it does have potential.

The advantage over Quake Wars is, that you can experience the whole game with good teams just as much [as with 16 people] ... I think a 4v4 is absolutely enough [for competitive play], the maps we played are very compact -> more teams -> more competition-

Contrary to popular belief about no recoil ... there is indeed some.
For my feeling the enemy dies faster than in Quake Wars once you've got him in your sights (which isn't that easy on console [as a competitive PC player])

The bodytypes are very balanced, however the Heavy was definately dominant on console, because you generally don't move as much ... this might look different on PC, though.

Handing out Buffs works fine and Objectives are self-explanatory for the most part ... so you get the drift as a beginner very easily.

You can gib with melee attacks ... unlike in QW where they had to patch it in

A demo-recorder and spectator-mode work fine according to the present Staff-members ... I didn't ask for the SDK, though

All in all a good premise for an E-Sport game.

Everything [in brackets] was added by myself. Also I'm not entirely sure what "gib/gibbing"(?) is. In the original German transcript he said "gibben", which is definately not a German word.

EDIT: Alright, apparently "to gib" means to finish of a downed/incapped player.

Its a SD game term, meaning to finish off an incapacitated player.

Here's hoping Heavies aren't as dominant on console as he stated. When the game officially goes live, and thousands upon thousands of people own it.

So there is recoil? If so, needs to be changed to "Contrary to popular belief, there was recoil" or "Contrary to popular belief about no recoil.......there is indeed some"

Oops, yeah, little translation mistake.

I hope that the PC version will be a true one, with reactive controls and more punch packed in it.

I found the whole 'heavies were quite dominant' quite funny, to be honest.

Demo Recorder!?

YES! THANK YOU SD!

Would also love if there's a video creation mode where you can push through a demo, and return a video at the resolution, eye candy, and most importantly, FPS you would like!
Would love to play my best games however I played them, and then push them through such an app to have a 60 FPS 1080p video with full eye candy and anti-aliasing available.
