Qusetion about char gen on Daggerfall

Post » Fri Sep 03, 2010 1:40 am

So I select my race, my class, etc, and I get to the screen that says "add bonus points!" and I can save roll, load roll, and roll, and a box that says "ok"
I really don't know what to do here, as no keys will "distribute" the points or whatever that it says I have to do when I hit "ok" I really don't know what to do at this point. I can click on the attributes and the triangle follows, but apparently that's not what I'm supposed to do.

Did you click on the arrows above and below your available amount of points to distribute?

There should be arrows above and below the distributable points (or to the side, I don't exactly remember) that you can add to the attributes. Saving rolls and rerolling is fairly straightforward. You should also keep in mind that every roll also randomly adds some bonus to each attribute, so weigh it against the distributable points before you use a roll or not.

Figured out what the problem was. The graphics on the layout are so terrible I didn't even notice there were arrows on there. They are literally 99% the same color as the rest of the diamond, but the tips are a SHADE darker, didn't even notice.

I don't think they were intended to be a different color, they're arrows on the top and bottom of the points to distribute. It's pretty clear cut what to do there.

Still, it's a pretty common problem that people miss it.

I"ve never understood that. I'm both legally blind and somewhat colour blind and I didn't miss it! Then again, maybe I'm just used to the look of olde DOS games.

It's one of those things that should probably find its way into the long-term feature requests for DaggerXL since so many people have issues with it.

Yea, I never had an issue with it either. I was going to say in my previous post that those sort of arrows were common in games of DF's era but I couldn't think of any examples...so I might have been mis-remembering. Now that you have hinted at that kinda thing, I guess they were :>
