Gambling?

Good job, adding "other" as an option, all polls should have this option by default.

I voted yes, but not for just any random game like we have in the real world, because that would ruin some of the immersion of being in Skyrim.

The gambling games found in Skyrim should be period games, authentic Nord gambling games if possible or if any exist, or something designed new to reflect the lore and period of that time.

The problem I have with Bethesda building such games is that they are already working on ONE game: SKYRIM. The amount of time and energy it would take to build these "games within a game" would be counterproductive. So here is my proposed solution:

Bethesda should announce a "Gambling Game" Contest. Applicants would try to invent the coolest idea for a gambling game that would fit well into the TES Lore and or Nordic Lore themes and yet who's rules would provide epic fun and stimulation. The applicant whose idea was approved for use by Bethesda would get 2-3 copies of the DVD Collector's version of SKYRIM a few days prior to its release. (To know that were the first to have the game 2 days before it released and could share that joy with your best mates would be awesome!)

Wouldn't Bethesda managing a whole contest take up so much more time and effort than sitting down for 10 minutes and picking some great gambling games to add? Plus, whether we tell them what they are, or they do, they still have to put them in themselves. I don't see how adding these 'games within a game' would be counter productive. It results in gambling minigames, so its plenty productive. And people seem to think this would involve the entire team at BGS to add... It could be just 2 people easily...

I`m up for any kind of money making system, whether it`s toss the dice, runestones, bones or whatever.

I was always poor in Oblivion.

As long as the gambling "games" are themed to TES, then I see no issue. But I don't want to see Blackjack or Roulette when I am playing the game!

I voted "no" for this. Unless it's some kind of drinking game for the Nords, I don't think that kind of element really fits TES. This isn't New Vegas or Read Dead Redemption.

I voted no, mini-games would just seem a bit out of place in this series. Just because other games have them doesn't mean they should put them in TES. I don't mind things like betting on arena fights like in Oblivion cause they fit, but full blow mini games like card games I wouldnt want in. Resources could be better spent in other aspects of the game.

I voted no because I don't like gambling or senseless games in general. :)

They be completely cool for many players, I have no problem with them adding the games in - just so long as they are Voluntary and not Required.

Any game would have to fit within the context - not sure if playing cards are something that exists in the Lore. :)

I of course would also want it to fit into lore. I could see card playing, but like you guys said, no Blackjack or poker. Perhaps some other crazy version of cards they invent. I of course agree with you Miaximus that they should be optional. It would be stupid to force the player to play a game for some silly reason. I just think if done right it would really add to the atmosphere of taverns and the like.

Unless maybe it's part of some kind of quest, like proving someone is a cheater.

Another one of these? We must have had over 5 of these by now the answer is still the same as it was in the past 5 topics, yes but only if it fits Skyrim. See old threads for further info on what I mean.

I would like to play a game or two, especially one of the few that were emntioned in MW books. That would be really neat.

I looked extensively before making this, AND I have checked this forum like 4 times a day, every day since it was made back in Dec. I did not see any other threads about gambling or tavern games. Now that I made this, I have seen at least 3 pop up in the last 2 days, so if anything, this is the 'older' one...

Gunmaster95, this thread was new to me, and to many others too, so disregard the whiner, hahaha. I also enjoyed your way of expressing the idea regardless of the so-called existence of any other similar idea.

Voted no. Doesn't really add much to "me, the adventurer". The only thing would be to make a very generic thing in an open fashion, that is included in the game, for the main purpose of showing modders how it's done. Gambling hooked up with a minigame; perhaps "drunken darts", "last man standing" (lol), or "last man under the table brings the bottle" :D

Seriously, I don't despise the idea, I just think it is far more important to focus on the things that *does* add something to "me, the adventurer".

I'll say Yes. I ratherl iked the dice game in The Witcher, and Dragon Quest VIII had a small casino in one city with three or so different games that were nice little diversions (and used to get some much needed gold and possibly unlock a couple of fairly high-end items.

I say yes! If they can do it properly, it would be a nice little addition as well a good way to earn or lose money (money sinks are always usefull for late game). If they do it the Fable 2 way, it's going to svck, though. A dice game would be good, some skill based game (knife throwing or such) would be cool too.
