How Are The Other Bethesda Games?

Post » Sat Sep 04, 2010 9:00 am

I have Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 for the pc. Aside from all the little glitches and bugs that these games may have, they're by far my favorite. I know there were a few others before Morrowind. I know of Daggerfalls and Redguard (or something), and maybe a few others. I'd like to get these as wel. Are these moddable games as well, and if so, are there a good selection of mods out there to choose from? What about having bugs like the latest 3?

As far as the main series goes, you've yet to play Arena and Daggerfall, the first and second Elder Scrolls games respectively. As far as being able to be modded, I haven't a clue about Arena, but I think Daggerfall may be able to (I'm still not sure though). And for bugs: they're Bethesda games; bugs are a given. :P You can download both games for free http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm. Keep in mind, they're older games so you'll need DOSbox or a similar program to run them.

You know, Arena and Daggerfall are available for free on the Bethesda http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm. Curses, beaten. *chuckle*

The older games are kind of cut from a different mold. Battlespire and Redguard aren't really RPGs. Daggefall is a lot like the newer games, but really old. Hell, you need dosbox to even run it! It is available for free however, so give it a spin. Arena is free also, but it kind of svcks (not bad for a first try though :goodjob: )

*whoa, two of you guys ninja'd me!!!

**I think this question is in the wrong section!

Is this the ninja-speed response section? Then I should put all of my questions here! Seriously though, i'm the type of person that loves a game when it comes out. Years later, when it's turned to Part 3 or 4, I tend to not be able to revert back to the old ways as far as graphics. But there are still some games out there I still enjoy playing. I know i'll be trying out these games eventually. Is DOSbox easy to use? I'm not the most utility-savvy person out there.

DOSbox can be a little confusing to set up, but once you get it all working it's no problem. Luckily, Bethesda included some instructions for how to get the game running. Someone here wrote a better (in my opinion) set of instructions though; I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1012957-alternative-daggerfall-install-instructions/page__p__14658203__hl__Taemos%20Daggerfall%20Install__fromsearch__1&#entry14658203 the alternative installation instructions.

DOSBox can be slightly tricky for those who never used DOS before and might confuse users with the difference between the real C drive and the virtual mounted C drive. But the http://static.gamesas.com/downloads/games/daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdf are rather straightforward, so if you just follow those, things will go fine.
