DF enchanted weapons value

Howdy, new here. Searched quite a bit, but found no other references to my question, sooo ...
Just dled Daggerfall, been wanting to play it for quite some time. LOVE it. Been playing it constantly for almost 2 weeks now. Up to level 11 with my custom Ranger Mage, and haven't even started the main quest-line yet. One quest away from being able to enchant items myself ... YAY!! .... I think I need to do 4 more quests for the Temple of Arkay before I can make my own potions, but at least I can buy them now ...
However, regarding enchanted items .... I've managed to find a few daedric weapons now, one a dai-katana enchated with light, and another a battle-axe with I forget which enchantment. Both of them I got identified at the mages guild. Let me tell you, I was rather excited to go sell my enchanted daedric dai-katana of light, expecting upwards of 70 - 80,000 gp for it, as I had already looked at a normal daedric dai-katana for sale and it was around 63,000 gp for purchase.
However, even at 'rusty' shops, they only offer me maybe 200 or so gp for the enchanted dai-katana of light .... what?? is this a known bug? is there a workaround? It seems the value of the item is determined by what it's enchanted with. oh well. I HAVE discovered that if I don't identify an item's enchantment, it seems to be worth more, but how can I really be sure, ya know? s'pose next time I find some high-quality enchanted weapon, I could save then try selling it both before and after having it identified ...

Also, regarding identification, I never seem to be able to self-identify items even tho I have my Identify spell set at 1+7 per level, which SHOULD make my chances to 78% at my current level. Do I need to set the initial chance higher perhaps? Or is the Identify spell just broken?

Incidently (or not, perhaps, which is why I mention it) I installed using DaggerfallSetup instead of the 'official' Bethesda download, as it is an automated installer that includes all the major patches and quest updates (official and unofficial) ....

thanks in advance!! :D

The price they offer is tied to your Mercantile Skill minus the skill of the shopkeeper. So if you have less than 10% Mercantile and try to sell it in an incense shop, good luck, for you'll never earn much.

There's a place in the Alikr Desert called Bhubrydata (sp?), with a shop called Perore Pawnbrokers. It's on the Eastern portion of the map. The Daggerfall Gazeteer id'ed it years ago as the most profitable place to sell your loot anywhere in the Bay, a claim which is certainly well verifiable: players generally stick out in the Alikr region because shopkeepers tend to pay more there.

I don't have problems id'ing items myself. I use the circinate Identify Spell at high levels, so it might have something to do with it.

I'm not certain, but I think the unenchanted weapons can sell for more because you have the option of enchanting them. If the thing they are enchanted with is a low level spell, it lowers the price. If the sword was able to cast Sphere of Negation, it should be worth a bundle.

The price of enchanted weapons is tied to the enchantment, like you thought. Higher level material stuff is almost always worth more unenchanted. Even good enchantments are not worth much. No workaround :(

Edit: sometimes I'll keep those sort of things to drain out the magicka. Good for sorcerers. And it's only kinda cheating.

Draining out magicka wears the weapon very fast.

Thanks for the replies. I figured as much regarding enchanment level affecting value. I'm trying something out right now actually, regarding draining the magicka from items. I've decided THIS character will do it, as it does have consequences on the item, and it can take awhile to work one's magicka up. Potions are faster. I've got a couple ridiculously expensive but high-level spells I cast before going into a store -- one increases Personality to 100 and the other increases Luck near 100 -- but I have to drain an item to be able to cast both ;-] ....
anyhow ...
what I'm doing is casting the light spell alot -- which I'm actually finding somewhat usefull, incidentally -- to wear the item out and see what it's value is then. I'm thinking very low or perhaps unbuyable, but perhaps also worth the value of the normal daedric ... hmmm ... we'll see.
my Mercantile is near 30 right now. I've doing the 'sell each item seperately' thing all the time now. I'll have to check out that city, haven't left Daggerfall province yet, but soon .... very soon ... =D

another interesting thing that happened is that SOMEHOW and not on purpose my Wisdom has increased apparently permanently to 200. Not quite sure HOW, but I'm thinking it was related to both wearing a magic item AND having a spell going that enhanced my Wisdom when I slept and leveled at the same time. I'm OK with that, as I didn't do it on purpose. Ululym the 2nd simply recieved a blessing. ;) Interestingly, I'm still not getting all that great spell resistance, and many of my spells still GET resisted.

But regardless, I've discovered I can wallop a Fire Daedra in 3 or 4 hits with the Daedric Dai-Katana of Light on my side.

next character, I'm not going to take 'no heavy armor' as a disadvantage ....

The low quality pawn shop is in Bubyrydata :)

Heh, unbuyable in the literal sense, perhaps. The enchantment is bound to the condition of the item--as you use it, it wears down, like weapons in combat but much faster, depending on the enchantment. However: when magical items break, they are destroyed completely. They don't just break and wait around to be fixed; they disappear and you never see them again :P

I remember the first time I got my hands on Mehrunes' Razor. I had it for about 5 minutes before it 'vanished'.

Lol,

The lesson? Don't overdo enchantments.

But since there are so many Daedric dai-katanas around once you're above level 10, this is hardly a loss. Pick another one, enchant, then pick another one, and so on.
