Does older TES-games contain it?
I have not played through all of the TES-games, but as far as I can tell there is none of this.
Lets say you find local musicians at the taverns or stumble upon them somewhere else. Red Dead Redemption showed us a good example of this, pianists at the bars and small campsites where guys were playing fiddle :violin:
We also have Lord of the Rings Online where music and instruments plays a big role, you can play ínstruments with use of the keys 1-8, ctrl and shift on your keyboard (1-8 = total scale, shift make it one octave higher and ctrl lowering them by half a step).
There is alot of cool instruments in Scandinavian music which would fit the theme of Skyrim perfectly.
Some examples:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyckelharpa The swedish "Nyckelharpa"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_bagpipes A simple swedish version of a bagpipe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardingfele Norweigan violin
We also have lots of different flutes capable of being a part of the game, though, the instruments in the game does not need to have a exact real-life representation. It could just be a "Skyrim-bagpipe", "Imperial-lute" or a "Bosmer-flute" inspired by real instruments.
What about simple warhornes and wardrums?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMV78a-G5xY&feature=related Worth a look, "Wardruna". This is so Skyrim
I'm not saying Skyrim should feature playable instruments like LOTRO, but I really want to see, at least to some degree, music and musicians. What do you think?
It would definitely bring som extra life into the pub-life and the over-all atmosphere. Probably the most important: There is potential to incorporate lore into the tunes of Skyrim.
