Hey Gryphon

Hey Gryphon,

Sadly yesterday's thread got yanked and I'll try to keep this one short and corporate-friendly. Mods, please don't chuck the thread until the brother sees it, okay? After that, do with me what you will.

Anyway, we were talking about video card fixes yesterday, so I thought I'd update you on my odyssey since then.

Well, it wasn't the video card or the drivers. Temps were fine, and I tested against a non-online game for about 3 hours last night with no problem (ME 2). After a second reformat before that, I also managed to run my other Steam game nicely (Civ 5) as I had before FONV. So it probably wasn't Steam.

I reloaded FONV for this morning, got the lock up after the beginning video. Fixed that one. THEN, after that's fixed, I get hit with the sound bugs. I just fixed that about an hour ago, and that was a bearcat, let me tell you. Hardest fix I've ever done.

But the game's looking good again! Until 25 minutes in, where I wind up back where I began with the sound-stutter, blackscreen lockup that reboots your system! heh heh

It was like a guided tour through every known bug in the universe!!! Fix one, then you get another! At no extra charge!

Anyhoo, I'm hanging this one up. My best guess is that the whole thing was probably a massive driver collision in multiple areas, but I got tired of chasing my tail in circles.

Wanted to say thanks for everything yesterday and the attempts to help me out. Hopefully you get a chance to see this before it disappears. This board is like 1980s El Salvador...:)

Good luck!

P.S.--To anyone else having similar problems, I *can* verify that many of the fixes work pretty well, but it's really a crapshoot as to which ones will or won't at this point and how each one will affect another problem area.

Anyhoo, no more from me on the tech board, but I had no idea if you would see this in general.
