What did you do in Daggerfall today

Post » Wed Sep 08, 2010 3:24 am

2 rep, that's it? Well, another problem with that quest was I couldn't find my way out of that dungeon, so I overwrote two of my saves in that dungeon. I still have one from when I was still pretty far in, and I would love to salvage all the loot I got from that place, but these labyrinths are pretty difficult to navigate through. I have explored the whole thing, and getting deep into a large labyrinth isn't a good thing. I'm also not fond of failing quests because of a bug(it's an obsession of mine). Mark and recall is in Daggerfall, right? I'm going to have to use that if it is.

So, should vampire ancients and high-level daedra eventually be as rats are to me now?

You can get around a number of bugs by using Cheatmode. See http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Cheats
(Actually I don't see how anyone could get through a game without Cheatmode).

To get out of a dungeon (with cheatmode activated): Save your game. Reload, and without moving, hit Alt+F11. This will take you back to the dungeon entrance. (Mark/Recall, called "teleport" in Daggerfall, is better though).

I'm not comfortable against vampire ancients until about lvl 20 using a daedric weapon.

Daedric weapons and armor are forbidden for my character, so ebony(or Chrysamere, if two-handed weapons aren't at a disadvantage in this game) will have to do.

Two handed weapons FTW.

So, using a shield doesn't produce and advantage over wielding two-handed weaponry? In Morrowind and Oblivion, blocking is only really effective with a shield, but I noticed there is no blocking in Daggerfall, so I can actually use two-handed weapons well in this game? What's better for combat, Auriel's Shield or Chrysamere?

Chrysamere, but to this day, I've only been able to get it in MW. It's possible, if you use DQFIX, to get Chyrsamere from Gortwog, or without the fix but the CompUSA patch, to get it from a Knights Guild quest that involves killing a lich (random chance of picking a letter that will you point where).

Generally, though, an enchanted Dai-katana with vampiric effect is just enough. Or if you have magicrepair on, soul bind stuff and whatnot, and get some really nifty and powerful things like energy and magicka leech, and even sphere of negation (possible if you soul bind a very nasty critter to it). Enchant another item to repair objects, and by the time it gets worn, unequip it and rest so it can be repaired; the more enchantments, the more quickly the weapon will wear out, so you'll have to do this frequently, but you'll have quite a powerful thing on your hands.

EDIT - Also, to offset the lack of a shield, enchant another item to strengthen your armour. A high level cuirass will generally do.

Someone asked me to complete a quest that would result in me obtaining Chrysamere at level 2, but it was after I had realized that killing an orc shaman in a certain dungeon was for a violent bigot, not because the shaman had done anything wrong, so I reloaded and lost that opportunity. Also, I just found a shirt(yet another treasure found in that labyrinth) that has an unknown enchantment on it, but after resting, my character automatically casted a spell and I was told that I have been fortified. What could that shirt be? It's worth 1200 gold? I've also anolyzed my map further, but still haven't found a way out. I see where I went wrong(jumping down a hole), but I don't see how to get back up. Cheat mode sounds like a way out, but I don't want to cheat.

The quest is a fake artifact quest. You're really not going to find Chrysamere :P.

Usually you need quite a lot of levels and rep with the Knights Guild to get an artifact quest, and to give the totem to Gortwog... Nuff said. Don't go deep into MQ dungeons if you're low level.

I suggest you identify the item before using, just in case. the shirt in question was a "cast when held" which casted an attribute enhancing spell. Always unequip these when travelling or resting because they tend to wear out fast.

To get back from a hole, just climb it. Keep pressing against the wall until you see a message "Climbing mode".

The hole isn't connected to a wall, so I can't climb back up. I checked my stats, and that shirt raises my agility to 91.

In that case, you might try a levitating spell... Or try and get out without climbing, since you're presumably in a room or some sort of space and not in a pit.

I've checked everywhere, and there is no way out, that I can find. There is one magically locked door that may lead me out, but I don't know how to open magically locked doors. I also found a lever, but I don't know what it's for. Don't some items allow me to levitate if I click on them?

Ahh it must be one of these obscure lever things that opens a door somewhere on the other side of the dungeon.

Try pulling the lever, see if the door is still magically locked though.

If not, and without a levitating spell... Well I dunno if expert climbers can help you. Jorm once completed the Mantella Crux without any magic, maybe he can give you a tip.

I'd try giving that lever a pull, myself.

I pulled the lever already, but it doesn't change anything about the magically locked door or the trapdoor I found. I want to go and search the area around the hole, but a vampire ancient is there and that doesn't leave me much time to anolyze anything. I hate dungeons.

LOL, for sure they aren't easy.

I'm standing right under the hole right now. Instead of a vampire ancient being there, there are now two werewolves, who are stuck together and can't move. The statues I was referring to earlier is behind a door in this room(I deleted the save data file in which I had explored it. I know there is probably some good loot back there, but at the moment, I don't care. I just want to get out of here. I'm clicking on random objects in the room, hoping for something to happen. If nothing works, then I don't know what to do, but after spending hours trying to get out, I think I deserve my loot. I'm never going into a dungeon without proper levitation and teleportation tools again.

Nothing happened, no matter what I did. :glare: I'm going to give up my loot. I learned a lesson, though.

We need a new one of these threads, right?
