Opening a Trapdoor

Post » Wed Sep 08, 2010 6:37 am

Hello,

I need some help with a dungeon layout. It's basically like this: great hall with a ramp and many flags, room on the corner with a trapdoor. Problem is that I've explored the whole dungeon and pulled every combination of levers around, and I still can't open it. I also tried jumping on it to no avail.

If you want screenshots I can post them.

Yea, we may need screens, or a dungeon name so we can go there ourselves :)

Yeah, that's much more fun than Googling a map or resorting to some help Wiki. Part of the rugged charm of Daggerfall. Let 'er rip! :toughninja:

I have encountered a trapdoor that I can't open, as well. How does one take pictures with DOSBox? The one I am referring to is in Garenor Hall of Daggerfall.

If you have a "Capture" folder in your dosbox directory, then pressing Shift+F5 will snap a shot.

Garenor Hall is a large, 4 module dungeon. There is a trap door in the southern most module at the bottom of a short shaft. That trapdoor can't be opened (I think). However, it doesn't matter. If there is anything beneath it (which I doubt) your quest object is not there. This can be proved by utilizing the [ or ] key in cheatmode.

There is another trap door in the center module at the bottom of the pit in the throne room. (Your quest object could possibly be here). It is opened by a lever behind a magically locked door on the south side of the pit.

There is another possible location of your quest object in this same throne room. INSIDE one of the statues along the wall (outside the pit, but on the same level). This statue can be shifted (revealing the quest object) by throwing a small lever on the back side of one of the thrones on the upper level.

NVM, I used the bracket keys. The quest object was right below it... Awww

The layout is actually pretty common: it's a great hall with flags everywhere, and a big ramp that leads to lower level. On the left corner of the lower level there's a door leading to a trapdoor: that was the trapdoor in question.

The dungeon itself was called the Marixullah Cave (dunno now) in Sentinel. Some dungeon names are outright grotesque, if you ask me: once the Mages Guild sent me to pick a catalogue in... The Pit of Baalogither? lol

I also found out that dungeons named "Aerie" are usually filled with Daedra, even at low levels. There was another, the Aethan Aerie (or so) in Anticlere, that was full of Daedra Lords; I was level 7. Ouch.

Yes, it is common. Just in case, here is how to get to the switch.
Go back to the main hallway and go down 2 levels. Through the door, go left down a short hall, through a room and down another hallway. Drop down a short shaft and into a room with a water trough along one wall. The skull above the trough is the switch that opens the trap door...But sometimes that skull isn't there. In that case go through the room and follow the hallway to the very end. There will be another skull (i.e. switch) above a shaft.

Thanks!

By the way... This Marixullah Cave in particular had another funny thing. A partly submerged great hall with an elevator and a treasury pile. So I catch the elevator and pull a lever midway, then I realize the elevator is going up and up, and took me right into the void! I could see the rest of the dungeon well below me. lol

Hey, that's the dungeon I was looking for some months back! I liked it because it opened right into the Ruined Tower block, which has that fun trapped treasure room. I used to farm that treasure room a few times because it was so near the dungeon entrance, so it was an easy reset-plunder-repeat sort of thing.
