Aurora Borealis

Post » Fri Sep 10, 2010 12:11 am

A big fat no. This is Tamriel (or Nirn, in fat), not earth. There is no arctic circle. And if there was one, Skyrim wouldn't be anywhere in it. There is - or used to be - even a continent north of it, you see.

Something inspired by it could be nice though, I always love things going on in the night sky.

Again, it is a planet, though TES religions don't know as much. Also, there's plenty of land north of mainland Norway (Svalbard), but they still have northern lights.

Atmora was a continent. There's no continent north of Norway. And whether Nirn is a planet or not is really up for debate. Personally I don't think it is. It's a plane, yes, but not a planet, But let's not go into a discussion about what would actually work on Nirn like it does on earth and what won't, because it's a tiring discussion without a desirable outcome for anyone.

My main point is this: I'd love them to make something inspired by Aurora Borealis, but I'd hate it if they downright copy it. Make it something unique to TES with a unique flavor and I'd really like to see it in the game.

Saturn has http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/11/091125231252.htm. It doesn't matter what atmosphere there is.

Regardless of this not being Earth, I'd like to see some pretty lights in the sky at night.

Umm...

Nirn =/= Earth...

Sure, the Nords are based off the Vikings, but I'd hope for a little more originality.

I've been to the northwest territories and let me tell you! Those lights in the sky are unbelieveable. The videos on youtube just don't do it justice. The colours that change, from green to blue to red's... it's just amazing. It is all dependant on the sun though, so it would depend on the sun in the elderscrolls universe. Seeing that tamriel has similar climates as earth, I don't think it is unreasonable to think they can occur.

It could be a random once-a-week occurance. I'd be happy with basic stars in the sky though.

I'm in Winnipeg and I see auruoa borealis on occasion, I bet North Dakota'ers see it too sometimes. It can go quite far south.

I know, they have to be experienced in real life. The color changing and the SOUND is just hypnotizing. Almost every time I'm at my grandmas (Norhtern part of Norway) I see the Northern Lights. Breathtaking. And that's why I think they should be in TES. They are just brilliant.

Hmm, just one thing on this ancient thread I found again, maybe northern light should just appear in the northern parts of skyrim? or appear once in a while, not making it too common. Would be more awesome if it just appeared in the nightsky one night and then its gone for a long time from the game before it suddenly is back, dancing over the mountains?

Yes, but only on the very northern coast, or the cold waste land parts. I dont want it every where.Or, a once a week/month kinda thing.
