So, I'm trying to install http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Scarecrow_Self_Made_Exoskeleton;77801 mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, and I have no idea what the hell I'm doing. I got it unzipped, found the game folder like the instructions say, and now I need to "\ 3. To install the mod simply unrar the "gamedata" folder into your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow\ of Chernobyl main folder." and my head hurts. If it matters, I bought it off of Steam. :shrug:


I hope it's O.K that I made a thread like this, I know we have a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. thread already, but I didn't wanna clog that one up with all the questions I'll be bothering anyone who answers with. I'm pretty much completely computer illiterate, they might as well have written the instructions in Chinese for all the good it does me. :brokencomputer:

Any kind soul feel like helping me out here? I'd really appreciate it. And sorry in advance if I should've put this in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. thread. Like I said, I just didn't wanna max it out by going "Right, and then what do I do?". :sweat:

If it's anything like OB then go to Steam\steamapps\common and there should be a folder there. Though you'll have to put in drive etc, I have mine on a seperate partition so for me it's just: D:\Steam\steamapps\common

What part are you confused with? It sounds like it just wants you to unzip ("unrar") the gamedata folder from the compressed archive that you downloaded into the STALKER folder.

So move the folder "gamedata" from the compressed archive (what you downloaded) into C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\stalker

(Note I don't remember what the exact directory of STALKER is since I don't have it uninstalled; copy and pasting that directory may not work)

Mostly how to find the folder with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in it. :facepalm: I assume that once I find that, I just "extract" the mod to where the S.T.A.L.K.E.R folder is.

There's a reason I normally only play on consoles. :confused: It sounds easy to you guys, but then I try and do it, and it's like finding the square root of 934392239 in your head.

And if you happen to be able to do that, it's like [Insert hard task here].

I found a Steam folder before with a "Games" in it, but when I opened it it was empty. And I tried what you guys said (even though you also said it might not work) and got nothing as well.

Oh well, I guess I'm not meant to use mods. :3

Go to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ and find STALKER.

Find your typical Steam folder ( I'm presuming you are using Windows ) and go open the steamapps folder, which for me is:

Go to the folder common and you should find S.T.A.L.K.E.R in there.
Full path ( using an assumed S.T.A.L.K.E.R folder name ):

Don't give up, it's really not that complicated. Just do a search for the folder called "steamapps" and look inside there. Or right-click on your Steam desktop icon and select "Open file location" if you're on Windows 7 or Vista (if you're still on XP you have to go to Properties and then select Open File Location, but same thing...) Inside this "steamapps" folder you'll find a folder called "common" - that's where most of your Steam games have their folders. Find your Stalker folder and drop the "gamedata" folder from your downloaded archive like the instructions say and you're all set.

So, I got the folder in, but now when I try and play the game, it crashes..

The "exception reason" is :"XR_3DA.exe caused BREAKPOINT in module "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\stalker shadow of chernobyl\bin\xrCore.dll" at 001B:00C97CB5, xrDebug::backend()+165 byte(s)" If that means anything to anyone. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to just re-install the game, now. lol
