Item/Element Creation System?

Post » Tue Sep 14, 2010 1:58 pm

I'm not sure because I have not been strictly keeping up with all 120+ iterations of this thread, but I have always thought that Oblivion would have benefited from the ability to create your own ingredients/items in game similar to the "Alchemy" and "Doodle God" apps that have become popular recently. I'd love to be able to combine ingredients to create more useful/rare ingredients rather than just a "potion of restore fatigue".
Similarly, being able to combine random items in the world to make something useful/valuable to your character would be similarly entertaining. Any thoughts?

I had the same idea, especially after playing games like minecraft. It would be cool if there were different attributes for harvesting and using resources. Like if the mines had some iron, silver, etc ores in them and you could use this to create weapons or armor.

The instant I saw Android's Alchemy Game, I thought about how could something like that implemented in TES games, but I must say, the implementation can not be as abstract as combining (Life+Stone=Egg), So, it has to be Elder Scrolized.

Definately! I would love to see a nice crafting system, Two Worlds 2 has a cool and dynamic spell creating and crafting mechanic that TES could borrow.

Eh I never was one for the whole alhemy thing.

But combining items like Cepenar could in BG would e a nice way to create some higher end weapons. Might be good for ES VI

I use a crafting system with MW, and would like to see something like that included in the next TES game, but I wouldn't want to see a lot of weird Alchemy combinations where you can make almost any potion in the game with just a few pieces of meat and some common oak leaves, with enough work. The game limits availability of some things for a reason, while allowing you to "practice" by making Restore Fatigue potions.

The "gadget" crafting in FO3 fits into that mindset well enough, but would feel out of place to me in TES. Similarly, I didn't like the way repairs were implemented, such as by somehow merging two worn and splintered baseball bats to make a good one, but the underlying concept of using one item for parts was good "in theory".

Crafting sounds definitely very nice. It would give me more reasons to haul away all that Ebony Ore for something else besides Alchemy :)

Forging my own *custom* Ebony (or Adamantite or Glass etc) armor or weapons would be awesome.

Aye, that is a great system there. Would be great to see in TESV.

I would love to have crafting in the Elder Scrolls, it shouldn't just be weapons, armor, enchantments, and potions (all of which have been implemented, but the first two to lesser degrees) but cooking, fletching, trapping, making alcohols, furnitures, ceramics, or other misc items as well. The thing is many people wouldn't want them, but they don't have to use them now do they? Even if they don't have it on release they should add it to an expansion pack or a minor DLC.

Lately we’ve been more lenient about TES V topics here but they have unfortunately begun to overrun this forum so we will be cracking down on them again.

  • If you want to discuss features that you would like to see in an upcoming Elder Scrolls game, or expect to see, please use the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147719-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-188/

  • Speculation on when or if such a game will be announced belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147858-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-89/.

  • Finally any discussion of future Elder Scrolls games that involve multiplayer of any sort belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119156-official-tes-multiplayer-thread/.
