DarnUI + Oblivion XP = Problem?

Post » Tue Sep 21, 2010 2:10 am

I was having some issues the other day after my new FCOM install where the game would crash anytime I attempted to load a new game. Somebody suggested removing the "menus" folder from my Data folder and this worked. So I reloaded the DarnUI omod and had no problems after that. Except with Oblivion XP. I would get the "Initialized" message but any time I should have been gaining XP no messages would pop up. So after some reading, I remembered that Oblivion XP also edited the menus. So I reloaded the Oblivon XP OMOD as well. When I attempted to load my save game, I got a CTD just like before.

So I tried reloading both OMODs. DarnUI first, and then Oblivion XP. I also selected the DarnUI option when reloading the Oblivion XP OMOD.

Still getting a CTD.

Can anyone help me here? I don't really understand what the problem is here.

I'm not sure. When I tried Oblivion XP recently, with DarkUId DarN (so, much the same, just not glaring pale hideousness :P) it worked just fine, though I didn't end up keeping Oblivion XP around, for other reasons entirely.

I'm pretty sure you have to load Oblivion XP first, and then load DarnUI second for the menus to overwrite correctly.

Try deactivating and then reactivating just DarnUI and see if that fixes your problems.

Quite the opposite. DarN's menus will assume the standard level-up method; OblivionXP's override that. XP has to be loaded last.

If you're getting crashes on game load, it has nothing to do with menu files. Are you using a clean save? Corrupted or mismatched script data could cause a crash on game load. Load once with OblivionXP disabled, then save that game; this will remove any OblivionXP data from the save, so you should be able to re-install it cleanly.

Xml files can cause CTD. If an xml file that is loaded has lines to include other xml files and those are not found, an instant CTD is the cause. So it seems that the Oblivion XP xml file includes another xml file that doesn't exist (at least not in the correct location).

I did not hear you mention that You had OBSE, You need that for this mod
If you are crashing during the load. IE before you even get to the bethesda movie loop. It can be the menu folder. the easiest way to get it to work is to Install Dark UI.
Copy the Menu folder. To someother place (Desktop?) Reason is so that if you have a problem with it after you load Oblivion XP you can do a quick revert back.
Now after Dark UI is loaded Open up the Oblivion XP and find out what menu's are in there, Install the Oblivion XP Try to run game Then replace the Files One at a time (If I remember correctly it only replaces 3 of the XML files.) Testing after replacing each copy.

I had the same problem. I guess you followed my advice on trying to move menus folder from data folder. After I uninstalled Oblivion XP it stopped crashing, I moved to nGCD + Progress.

Just want to say that DarN's UI and XP work fine together if installed correctly. I installed XP manually, following the instructions in the readme, and it worked fine.

I use both DarkUI Darn and Oblivion XP, and both are installed as OMODS and everything is great between the two.

When in doubt, use the OMOD version.

Whoops! Correct. I really shouldn't give advice when tired. Especially seeing as I've got both mods working correctly together, so I really ought to know what I did to achieve that.

Sorry I'm back, just wanted to say I resolved the issue. See, the first time I installed the two OMODs, I installed XP first and then DarnUI. So thats where the original crashes were coming from. Then whenever I moved the menu folder from my Data folder, it worked. So when I reactivated the OMODs, I kept forgetting to put my menus folder back in before I deactivated the OMODs.

So basically, the original problem was installing XP first. Then after I tried fixing it, I kept forgetting to put the folder back first.

All fixed now. Thanks all!

Whoops! Haven't encountered that issue, though of course it makes perfect sense now that you describe it. :P
