Random problems/ CTDs

I've been having some weird problems lately that keep reoccurring and I've been trying to figure out which of my mods is causing the problems. One problem I keep having is that randomly, an empty container will popup when my character is just walking and will continually popup over and over until I have to quit to restart. Another is a weird CTD I've been getting in the Oblivion tower in Kvatch's gate. I get up to the 2nd floor and when I use block it will crash usually and will eventually crash whenever I try to get beyond that point by other means. I use Streamline but the CTDs aren't stopping. Trying to load an autosave gets me a message saying "Save file is corrupted". I use FCOM and many other mods, and the problems only started recently to my knowledge, after downloading Vows and Covenants. Thought that might be the reason but I still CTD when I disable it. You are not using BOSS, and your load order needs it. My first clue is that you have Bob's Armory loading after the FCOM-Bob's Armory plugin.

Your load order does not show a bashed patch - which is required for FCOM to work correctly, and it will help with all those race mods you are using.

I would start with the above two points.

Oh my. Your load order is all out of whack. This may not be the culprit of the CTD's but it will certainly cause issues. Find BOSS on the Tesnexus and download that and the optional file (its the latest load order list). Download and read the readme and use it. It will sort your load order out for you.

After your load order is fixed, rebuild your bashed patch. I can't go through and explain how it all works, so hopefully you already know about the bashed patch. It seems like a hassle to trebuild your bashed patch but its necessary and doing so will allow you to run most mods together without conflict.

After you've done these, come back and let us know if you are still having problems. Also, posting your computer specs may be helfpul, as it could easily be a hardware issue. Hows your performance? Stuttery and slow? Or smooth?

Also, the most detailed, informative kind of load order you can post is from within Wrye Bash (what a surprise, eh? it slices, dices...) - it even gives you the spoiler and code tags that make it more suitable for posting here.

It really does help, when you want people to anolyse your config.

I actually do use BOSS but I think it may need updating because when I use it I usually have to manually change the order cuz it will cause better open cities to conflict badly with unique landscapes but I will try updating it to see if it will help.

I've got a bashed patch too but I'm not completely sure how to use it because I thought bashed patches go at the end of load orders but wyre bash always places it in the middle or towards the front. I'm wondering if that order is affecting the rebuild. How do I tell wyre bash to let BOSS just handle the load order cuz everytime I use it changes everything and causes increased conflicts.

My computer runs well with most games so It really isn't the specs that changes the performance it's DLing a million mods XD. Yet I keep going because they enhance the game so much. I probably would find Oblivion boring without FCOM, DR, UV, UL, and the magicka overhauls. But anyways, I have a Intel duo core CPU 4.00 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 graphics card, and OS is windows 7 64 bit.

I'll try rebuiling patch after moving it down the load order next to see what it gets me then update BOSS and see if it can fix my load order some.

Be sure to turn "Lock Times" off in Wrye Bash, and Right Click File tab in Mods window and Select Sort By Load Order...

Hmmm... I updated BOSS and rebuilt my patch but I'm still getting these CTD issues. On the other hand, I'm no longer getting those ugly red conflict highlights in wyre bash. So I'm still not sure what the problem may be. I don't think any of my mods directly impact or change any cells in planes of Oblivion but maybe so. I'm also wondering if maybe its not telling me, but the save I'm using is already corrupted. Here's my new load order from wyre bash's list:

Have you cleaned your mods with TES4Edit? I use Kvatch Aftermath in my setup and if I don't clean the mods, especially any dealing with changes to Kvatch, I get lots of CTD problems around it. Especially in the Oblivion gate. I know this is adding something more to do but it is well worth it in the long run. It will make your entire game run much better. You will need to do a lot more reading before doing it as there are some mods you don't want to mess with. I suggest TomLong's site "tesivPOSItive.animolious.com" for guides on tweaking your setup. It's the most comprehensive site for guides and links on tweaking. Good luck and hope this may help a bit.

The "Delinquent Master" warnings in your list indicate that your are missing required master plugins or that the masters are loaded after the mod that depends on them. It looks like you are missing the BG - EV plugin, which your load order requires.

The delinquent master listings on the bashed patch refer to the mods you are allowing to load after the bashed patch. I am assuming those were unrecognized by BOSS. You'll need to reorder them by hand. They should definitely go before the bashed patch, though. Also, it would be nice to report them in the BOSS thread, so that they can be added to new versions of the masterlist.

I'm not sure you need/want to be using COBL Races alongside all the custom races you are adding. In fact, race plugins are kind of complicated and picky. If I were you, I would spend some time in the readmes of the various race mods and iron out any compatibility issues.

Your bashed patch is not configured correctly. I can tell, because many of the FCOM plugins are marked mergeable, but they are not merged in your load order. Basically, Wrye Bash and BOSS tag mods with appropriate options in the bashed patch options menu. So, when you rebuild the patch, it's usually good to go ahead and check the options supplied. There are some exceptions, but those should be listed in the readmes of your various mods.

UOP vampire face plugin is now obsolete. There is a bashed patch option that covers it. It is in Tweaks, I believe.

Finally, some of your crashes may just be system overload. Open Better Cities and FCOM both add a lot of stress to the system. I would suggest switching to Open Cities, which is still actively supported and does not carry system stress that Better Cities and Open Better Cities does.

As a final note, I think I've only ever seen someone use MMM without using any of the various optional plugins before! You might want to look through those in order to customize your installation.

Well I read up on cleaning mods and cleaned a number of mine, notably Kvatch Rebuilt and some others. My other saves are playing much better after cleaning them and load pretty nicely but the same problems persist on my character that's within kvatch's oblivion gate.

I'm searching for the problem by experimenting with that save and found a number of strange glitches. One was my lost paladins flaming sword which has a flame effect that's much taller than the sword is, which is off. If I try to wait the problem out, I get a container popup that will continually come up no matter how many times I close it. Otherwise I'll just CTD. Reloading a streamline save shows it's not corrupted but I crash almost immediately when trying to make progress.

Fortunately, Ive got a prior save before going to kvatch with the same character so if the save can't be salvaged I'll just start a ways back and try kvatch again to see if it's not just the save.

As for the Delinquent Master warnings, some I was somewhat expecting because to use some of the companion mods to make my own companions in the CS I made the races master files so they could be used. I'm not sure why the BG-EV esp isn't showing cuz it is there. I know, I do have alot more races then I need and I'll see if I can cut down on some cuz most I don't use, just random requirements for other mods.

If you made those races master files, the plugin that depends on them should be moved to load after them. BOSS's load order is not absolute. If you make changes that require that you alter your LO, implement them.

Yeah, I normally do, just posted the Load Order right after using BOSS just to show new order. BOSS is an amazing tool but I know it can't predict my personal plugins.

So I tried again with an earlier save I had of my character in kvatch which had a few differences to the the glitchy first run.

This save hadn't gotten the Lost Paladins of the Nine reflective armor and flame sword yet which may have contributed to the CTDs, didn't bring my companion along this time, and hadn't taken the Vow of Stendarr for the Vows and Covenants mod yet, so I didn't have to attempt to request the dremoras to surrender to my paladin lol. Worked all the way through no problems.

I noticed after playing a while after I had an instance of the infinite empty containers poping up, but I just reloaded a Streamsave and it was fine. One new problem though I didn't have before was some of the NPC's faces. A few NPCs would from time to time, seem to have one face talking over another still face! kinda weird... Like the mouth wouldn't really move it was another copy of the face moving, Idk, it was strange lol.

I think it may have something to do with my bashed patch, because I followed the Bashed Patch recommendations from BOSS to the letter and it may have been one mod changing the faces and another mod changing them to another, not overwriting the other just copying over instead. Anyways, if anyone has any ideas on the infinite container glitch or how bashed patching may have caused the faces to not overwrite, feel free to reply.

K, got the new updates for unique landscapes now and got the master for LAME as well so those should be fine now. What do I do about the unprocessed files that are behind the bashed patch? Just move the patch down or is there something more to do?
