Beam me up Scotty!

So, scientist at the University of Tokyo have successfully teleported quantum information.

You read correctly, teleported.

"Researchers appropriately transferred the Schrodinger's Cat "thought experiment" that surmised a cat could exist in a quantum "superposition" state of being both alive and dead at the same time."

I want to see them teleport a cat

but yeah quantum based computers are definitely a possibility, and they are not far away if you ask me.

Pretty cool I must say. Does it say something bad about me that every time I glance at the title, I see "Beat me up Scotty!"?

Warp speed wasn't telepportation, it was traveling through another dimension.

Also, saw this earlier last week on FB. It has massivepotential for communications and space exploration. as well as weapons development and cyber crime.

Interesting, but this isn't exactly transporters we're talking about here. They're not teleporting people, or really any sort of lifeform, just quantum information, and the main benefit of it is stated to be in quantum computation, which certainly has it's own value, but it doesn't really mean that we'll be able to teleport ourselves anywhere in the near future.

No, but I'm pretty sure Freud would certainly have something to say about that. :P

Cat? What cat?

This is one step forward in technology! Today we teleport information, tomorrow we teleport ourselves into other planets! WE WILL TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSE!
Sorry, my brain is kinda messed up after the parliamentary elections :(

Ah don't worry about it, elections hurt all our brains.

Glad i'm not the only one who saw "Beat Me Up Scotty!". Thought it was going to talk about some fat kid who got bullied for wearing a red T-Shirt with a Star Trek symbol on it.

I've heard about these teleportation experiments right now and they are proving quite fascinating. Our best attempt has been a particle transferred from one area to another which is like 1 inch apart from another or something. Hopefully we will soon see teleportation for humans so I can finally go to freaking San Francisco with out that infernal 3 hr flight time with no FREAKING FOOD!! Next time I swear i'm packing a lunch for myself I pay $400 for a round trip ticket and don't even get a peanut packet. freaking cheap airlines

I'd rather not... I don't want to come out looking like the pig thing that was in galaxy quest when they beamed it up.

Come oooooon quantum Internet speed. :read:

Now on to the subject of whether or not the information is the original, or a copy. If it's a copy, then teleportation may take on the characteristic described in The Prestige.

Is it weird that, from that one line, I got that you were referencing Half-Life 2? And if you aren't referencing Half-Life 2 I really need to stop playing Half-Life 2 so much.

Yep, I can see it now "This new Quantum Internet rocks man, I'm downloading at 20 Terrabytes a second dude" Then, there's me "Yep, I'm downloading at 5 megabytes now! Woot for High Speed internet finally reaching here! Now, if I could just get that Quantum Speed like you, I'd truly be happy".

So, uh... anyone else feeling excited that the barriers between the world at the quantum level and the world at a Newtonian level are unraveling?

Meh. I'm still waiting on the large-scale usage of zeppelins.
