FPS fallout project

Yes, I played fallout 3 and new vegas too, which I admittedly liked MUCH more than fallout. But I didn't spend on those two combined, not even 1/3 of the time I've spent playing oblivion. Is just fallout never really caught my attention the way oblivion did. You may argue I prefer medieval games over modern environments or that I like swords better than weapons, but the truth is I've also spent a good amount of time playing: call of duty, Battlefield 2 and even CS. I do like FPS, in fact I love them. so what's the problem then??

Well, IMO, I think I just can't get around the idea of fallout's combat implementation. I absolutely abhor the VATS system. I think new vegas would be a perfect game if it had a FPS combat system. But it just doesn't....and the new iron sight is more of a tease than anything.

From the sluggish sight, the absurd damage values, the ridiculous way the AI charges in front of a person with a machine gun and GET AWAY WITH IT, to the way accuracy works based on attrib points and bullets hit even when they shouldn't... its just ridiculous.

In any case, fallout's community has been working all this time and I can see there are myriads of new mods since I last looked. I guess my question is if there is a mod or a current mod in progress which addresses these issues and aims to make the combat system more realistic....

Thank you.

Edit: when I say sluggish iron sight I refer to the difficulty of accurately shotting a moving target using the iron sight mode, and yes I've played around with mouse settings, smoothing etc, but it doesn't feel quite right....
I will try the mods you guys mention, when I get some free time, Thanks :). I might even do some tinkering myself to tweak things even further.

well its an RPG after all and stats (attribs and skills) have to matter. there are plenty of FPS's out there if that's what you're looking for and I, for one, dont want FO to become a shooter. that said, i completely agree with most of what you said.

1) VATS -I never use VATS, preferring bullet time when i have to. it's use is optional so shouldnt be much of a problem

2) Ironsight/sluggish sight - i dont quite understand what you dont like about it. perhaps if you explained what you dislike and what youd like to see, there might be a mod for that

3) Damage values - i find that vanilla gun damage is weak so ive made damage 1.5x stronger for all weapons

4) Accuracy based on attribs - well i dont quite know how it worked in vanilla as i played modded from the start but, as ive said, FO is an RPG. while i dont think gun damage should be based on skill, i fully believe that accuracy being based on stats is wholly consistent with being an RPG. if you removed the effect of attributes on how well/effectively use a weapon, combat skills become useless and you take away a large part of the game. However, if you really want accuracy to be the same regardless of stats you can edit those values very easily using FNVEdit. Also check out the mod More Realistic Aiming which i believe allows you to customize how aiming works.

5) Bullets hitting when they shouldnt - there are several "no autoaim" mods out there.

My own FO game plays like this:

* combat is very deadly. PC and NPCs die from very few shots, head shots usually 1 hit kill specially on unarmored opponents. charging a machine gun results in a quick death
* no autoaim, accuracy based on how skilled I am with a weapon

FWE mod made FO3 much more FPS-like (which was one of it's main goals). Likewise, Project Nevada is likely to do the same for FNV.
