Identify spell, broken?

Post » Sun Oct 17, 2010 6:55 pm

Perhaps I'm using the identify spell wrong, but i don't see how ...
Currently, my character is lvl 12 with a 200 Wisdom, and my magic skills are all up in the 40s. I made an Identify spell with 5 + 7/lvl chance to identify. That should mean I have an 89 percent chance to identify items, yes? However, no matter how many tries I make, I can NEVER identify anything, unless I'm in the Mage's Guild, at which point I get charged anyhow for using my own spell.
Is Identify broken? do others have this problem? am I using Identify wrong?
thnaks in avdance ... ;)

Funny thing, because Identify works perfectly for me. Sometimes I fail to ID things, but that's rare.

Same here. In fact, I thought it was bugged, such that you'd never fail (or was that the unlock spell?)

Do you "select" items into the rightmost tab before clicking "Identify"?

yes, i select items. I've tried single items, i've tried multiple items. I've tried items I already know what they do. Still, I never succeed in identifying anything myself. ever. wondering if running that save-game-fix tool would help.
another interesting thing, unrelated, is that the signs when you enter a town never give notices anymore, just the town name. they used to give notices, but not anymore. starting to think my save-games are somehow broken, but not sure if running the fix utility would help. but, hey, would it hurt?
