Living in Japan, with a PS3 from the UK...

Post » Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:34 am

I don't know how all this region locking works. I basically just need to know whether I can safely order Brink from the US and that I'll be able to play it online here in Japan?

Thanks in advance,
Mem

I can't say for sure either :sadvaultboy:

And I know this is off topic but...since you are living in Japan, is PSN back up over there yet?

Let me check. :P I'm not really sure whether I'm logging into the Japanese PSN, because my account is European.

Dont quote me on this, but I know some friends in South Korea you have ordered from the US and they will be able to play over there. I would assume it would be the same for Japan.

Doesn't seem like it. But anyway, let's not go on a tangent. Still looking for someone who knows about this!

PS3 is not region locked for games, however it is region locked for DVDs/Blue rays.
I have a US PS3 and I play Japanese games on it.

Not 100% true.

The old pre-slim model PS3s (60GB and 40GB models) are non-region-locked.

A limited selection of games have come out with region restriction though. I have a zone 1 (US) copy of Way of the Samurai 3 because I heard it wasn't going to be released here (eventually, several months later, it was). I can play it fine on my 60GB PS3, but my friend can't on his slim model.

MOST PS3 games are region-free, but not all. It's worth double-checking.

I have 2 game ive ordered from asia that are english subs, Killzone 2 and Biohazard 5 that played on my old 60gb and also still work on my ps3 slim. Its mostly a DVD/Blu-ray debacle. If i were you i would just preorder from somewhere that takes returns, worst case scenario you buy it and it doesnt work you return it or it works and you keep it lol.

http://www.play-asia.com/paOScore/19-71-99-49-en-15-brink.html

you can always check play asia for the region codes on games. It shows xbox with multiple versions, and one PS3 version with "NO REGION PROTECTION". Looks like you're in the clear for brink friend.
