For many independent gaming communities and people who happen to have a server, Linux dedicated server support is essential if they are going to be able to host the game. The reason is simple, a Windows licence for a server box costs a lot of money. So unless you are running your servers for profit then you most likely can't afford to run Windows.
The options that us independent gaming communities have in terms of games we can host has essentially dropped to zero. Valve support linux, which is great but the games that get players on server and onto our forums are starting to get old, so we need new games to host. The current trend is for the big players to want total control over their games, so you have Activision only allowing one company to host their game and you have EA only allowing "trusted partners" to host their games. I'd tell you more about what is required to be a trusted partner, but no one at EA or any of the EA developers have thought explaining was worth their while.
Even the games that don't have such exclusive clubs usually require windows, like anything usuing the ever popular Unreal Engine, as it doesn't work on Linux servers. It seems that the makers don't want it to.
So there are a lot of people and communities out there who have servers that can't run recent games, either because they are intentionally excluded or because they can't afford a Windows licence. This provides a great opportunity for Brink. In a year where Black Ops still dominates, with the excitement over Battlefield 3 and MW3, Brink can get itself well established, on PC at least, simply by providing Linux server support. We are crying out for a game that supports Linux servers.
If you want Linux server support then please post.
