Help setting up FCOM

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 3:46 am

So I've been playing Oblivion now for about a month with no problem with the other mods I'm running (about 50) and would like to use OOO and MMM. I've been using OBMM to install 99% of them too. I have the GOTY version from Steam which has all the DLC. My question is should I do a clean install of the game, will it be easier to set up the game that way? Also since I'm using OBMM how do I go about deactivating the mods and making sure everything is removed so I have a clean game? One last thing, What is a good place to find up to date step by step instructions? I was reading this http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/fcominstall.html And it seemed to be the easiest for me to follow even though it wasn't very up to date.

You do not have to do a clean install of the game, but reverting to vanilla Oblivion would make following the FCOM instructions simpler, probably.

FCOM Installation Guide - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=guides_mod_installation&subpage=fcom_installation_guide <-- This is my unofficial guide. It is up-to-date, unless you want to use the new BSAs (kind of still being tested.) You should also always check the opening post of the current FCOM thread for the most current Bash Tag instructions. I maintain the Bash Tag updates on my site as well, but I think they have changed recently. I will be updating the page on that site soon, but all of the latest FCOM updates are found in the thread, of course.

I'll check that out now. How do I go about turning off the mods I have running and making sure they are uninstalled with OBMM? I want to get the game as close to vanilla as possible so I don't have an problems. Also if I have other mods I've been using that work do i load them at that time or can I do it after I get things working with FCOM.

Deactivate all of your OMODs, and wait until you have FCOM running by itself before adding mods. As long as you add them slowly, and test as you go, you should be fine.

Forgive me if I sound like an idiot but for step 7 for Fcom when you say
# Delete the original archives after the OMOD is completed.
Does that mean delete the files I downloaded?

Where is that quote? Probably, yes. Why would you need the originals? I really just need to see the quote in the context of the page you're reading.

All the requirements plus download links to all current versions of dependent files are outlined in the opening post of the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102058-relz-fcom-convergence-and-ufcom/
I strongly suggest following that guide and if still unclear post in the relevant thread for guidance.

Yes. However, that step is not necessary. There is no reason for that step to be included. Users can do whatever they want with the downloaded archives.

Edit: I will remove those steps when I get home. They have no bearing on the successful installation of the mods.
