Need LOD help.

Post » Wed Oct 27, 2010 11:27 pm

Hello, I'm pretty new to Oblivion and using mods for it and I have installed a few key visual mods svck as Q's Texture Pack, Better Cities, and a LOD mod that supposed to extend the view range, however my Oblivion constantly is all foggy and I can't really see anything when on high towers (i.e Frostcrag Spire). I was wondering if there was a mod that got rid of all the fog so I could get the most out of my LOD.

The fog should not be there permanently. It would be nice to see your load order.

Please, post it - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=know_how_to#PostYourLoadOrder <-- instructions here

I do not see a mod that is supposed to increase view distance, by the way...

Apparently, you do not like StreamSight's fog. Turn it off in the INI, and then reinitialize it using the init from INI option in Streamline's in-game menu (CTRL+HOME).

Other recs:

Natural_Weather_by_Max_Tael.esp <-- buggy, get the fixed version
Stabilization & Optimization Mods - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=stabilization_and_optimization_mods <-- link here

Get BOSS to sort your load order.
BOSS - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=load_order

Crowded Roads 23.esp <-- get the better version of Crowded Roads from the first link

Natural_Vegetation_by_Max_Tael.esp <-- replace with Enhanced Vegetation (first link)

DeadlyReflex 5 - Combat Moves.esp <-- there is a hotfix available for DR5 at the bottom of the Downloads section at TESNexus

Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV4.esp <-- This plugin is kind of old. You could grab the latest version of BP, and use the following to patch it for Robert Male support: http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=merging_ren_and_robert_male

I highly recommend installing the Unofficial Oblivion Patch - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=stabilization_and_optimization_mods#VanillaFixes

Edit: The plugins without ESPs are usually mods referred to as replacers, as in the case of the two mods you've described. Also, you have kind of a bad typo in your first post. I thought you were insulting those mods that you listed, but I did not get that feel from the rest of the post. It was a bit unsettling at first, and I only just now figured out what that word was supposed to be.

Check the edit in my last post, please. :) Your mod list looks pretty much conflict free once you get it sorted.

More preventative measures - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=oblivion_ini_tweaks <-- In addition to reading the rest of the page on which the UOP is listed, these should help prevent a few crashes, the first few, anyway.

lol oops, I can see how that could lead to some negativity haha

Edit: So installing the patch for Oblivion won't lead to any conflicts for any pre-installed mods?

Which patch? Well, if you are referring to either of the two I am thinking of, then no.

Could you walk me through the .ni part for the Streamline fog?

Streamline's ini file is in a folder labeled with it's name. Go to it and look for this line:

set SLv.Streamsight to 0 ; Turn on Streamsight? (FPS enhancer)

It will be right near the top. 0 turns the fog off, 1 turns it on. If you do this with an existing game, you'll need to reinitialize Streamline while your in that game, otherwise it will start automatically. You do this by going to it's menu, I forget the default keystrokes, going into Special Actions or something like that and clicking on the reinitialize option.

Sure.

1) Find the sl.ini file in Oblivion\Data\Streamline\INI Files
2) Open the file in a text editor. (I prefer Notepad++ for dealing with configuration files, such as this.)
3) In the first section with settings, for SLv.Streamsight overwrite the default setting (1) with a 0
4) Exit and save.
5) Launch the game and your save.
6) Click CTRL+HOME to reach SL's main menu.
7) Choose the 'Special Actions' option.
8) Choose the Reinitialize from INI option. (I need to lookup the exact wording.)

That should do it. The SL documentation is very good, believe me. There is an SL - Configuration TXT file that explains what each component of Streamline does, in general. The INI file has brief but useful descriptions of each setting, and there are other tips and configuration instructions among the other three text files as well.

Hmm I did all of that and the fog still persists.

Try doing a clean save with Streamline.

1) Launch the game.
2) Open the console, and enter COC testinghall
3) Save (with a new save.)
4) Deactivate the SL plugin.
5) Launch the game.
6) Open the console and enter COC Weye. See if the fog has cleared up.
7) Reactivate the Streamline plugin.

Which version of Streamline are you using?

3.1, and after turning off SL the fog is gone and it looks just as it should with the LOD.

Edit: With the bodies mods all the npcs and including my own pc do not have eyes.

Is it fine when you reactivate it now? Please, post your updated load order.

Edit: Is your game patched to the latest version? Do you have BSA Redirection set in OBMM > Utilities > Archive Invalidation? I forget the exact cause of the eyes not showing up...

Beautiful PeopleV22 - MaleReplacerV4.esp <-- You cannot run two versions of the main plugin. Remove this. If you want to run Robert's mod with BP without following that tutorial, install Wrye Bash and use a Bashed Patch to take care of it.

Wrye Bash Installation - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=wrye_bash#Config

Edit: Try turning of Streamline's StreamSight through the in-game menu. Also, did you set the weather unsticker to 0 in the sl.ini? This tweak is mentioned toward the bottom of that sl.ini setup page.
