Why not? The more things change, the more likely it is we get a fresher experience from Skyrim :)

I think Bethesda has confirmed it as canon.

Yes, they are canon.

The only thing we dont know yet is if Skyrim takes place before or after the sundering of VVardenfell.

I do hope it takes place after, I love Morrowind and if it was before I would have this terrible urge to break the invisible wall between Skyrim and Morrowind and go warn them.

I was massively disappointed to hear that Vvardenfell was destroyed. I had hoped to be able to visit my favorite place again in a future installment.

Canon means that is will affect the lore right? I am unsure of the meaning.

If that is what it means then I can assure you that the Infernal City is indeed canon. In my opinion it is awesome to see the Argonians take over Morrowind and the Mage's Guild split up. The Mages guild was at war during the events of Oblivion. I bet that the new Arch Mage really svcked and made everyone hate him :P

The main thing is that Infernal City is 400 years after Oblivion, Skyrim is supposed to be a direct sequel, isn't it?

The infernal city is set roughly 40 years after Oblivion.

Skyrim IS NOT a direct sequel until they say it is in the GI mag. They wont say it though because it is not true ;)

According to information removed from online that the next ES game would take place 200 years after Oblivion and Infernal City was 40 years after Oblivion. I'm fine with the destruction of Vardenfell and what not, these things are probable. The only thing I don't like about the Infernal City is Clavicus Vile. How the hell did he get out of Oblivion >.>

I was under the impression that the city is due to Umbra not Vile, and technically the city is in oblivion. It exist outside of Mundus plane of reality.

I love the Dummers (second only to imperials). It broke my heart to read all the crap they had to endure, but I take solace in the fact they weren't on Morrowind when the IC came.

To add, we don't know how many Argonians were lost, for all we know every single empire influenced Argonian is dead, leaving Morrowind to be reclaimed by Dummers, or the empire in the name of the Dummers.

I really hope Skyrim takes place after both The Infernal City and the next novel, because I really like how much the world changed in the 40 years after Oblivion.

Even if every single empire influenced Argonian is dead, the Dunmer are in no position to reclaim their land just yet. Remember that they had already invaded mainland Morrowind and slaughtered the remaining Dunmer there before the events of The Infernal City. The Dunmer who fled to Solstheim have quite a while of work ahead of them before they're a big enough power to reclaim their land.

Plus, I like the idea of the Dunmer not getting their land back. I don't want the lore to change so drastically just for it to go back to the way it used to be at some point. And it's not like the Dunmer could invade Black Marsh at any point in the future, Black Marsh is much more dangerous than mainland Morrowind and much more difficult to conquer.

And I'm not sure the Dunmer who lived on Vvardenfell would have preferred the entirety of Vvardenfell being covered in lava and ash to only some of them being turned into zombies by Umbriel.

It is cannon. It's nice to see Tamriel get shaken up a bit. And the Dunmer had it coming anyway. Besides the fact that this event was in the lore of the game before the Infernal City, they were racist jerks who hate everyone except themselves. And even then they hate each other if they are in different houses. They're my favorite race and I'm glad to see them get struck down from the pedestal they put themselves on. I hope, and it seems only logical that Skyrim would take place after the Infernal City and it's sequel.
Mass Effect had a "prequel" book, so did Mass Effect 2 and I'm fairly certain Mass Effect 3 will have one. It's all about bridging the gap and building hype.

The only thing I hope is that it isn't 200 years after Oblivion, I would prefer 60 or 70

I agree.

If they say 200 years later and Vvardenfell/Morrowind still looks like a volcanic wasteland after the eruption, I'm gonna scream. They should know they did that with Fallout 3 and look how well that turned out. I'm sure after 200 years, Vvardenfell/Morrowind would still be habitable.

I honestly hope Skyrim is set no less than 10 year after Infernal City.

I love the main characters in the Infernal City so I hope they have some lore role in the game, be it setting the player on the adventure or as a part of historical lore.

I've been avoiding Infernal City because the only book I ever tried to read by Greg Keyes -- Newton's Canon -- got pitched across the room with extreme force after about 10 pages. I liked the Dunmer and having them wiped out really pisses me off. So does the idea that the Mages Guild is now replaced by something called the Synod which has unpleasant religious overtones.

I'm looking forward to Skyrim, but am afraid it will in no way resemble the Tamriel I've enjoyed for 17 years.

Ugh, I'm tired of hearing this. The Dunmer did not get wiped out. Sure, around half are probably gone, but still. And the Mages Guild was replaced by the Synod, and the College of Whispers, which, judging by the name, and the only little bits we hear about them, are more or less what the Guild was.
And, all the same, if the game is set 200 years after, that gives the Dunmer time to repopulate, and old Guilds to form anew.
