Traveling Home

As most of you don't know, I was in the middle east serving in a type of security force (better known as police, here) and was injured after my son died and ended up being sent to America for medical treatment (I have no idea why they sent me so far away, honestly.) and ended up bringing my younger son along with me. Originally I was supposed to stay here for five years but it has been cut short to three, two of which I have already spent the third year is nearly over.

My son has been desensitized to what goes on in the middle east and has little to no clue of where we came from (He was two when we went here) and I have no clue as to what I am going to say to him when we leave to travel back to my home because he had no clue he about the fact of my injury and will probably question as to why we are in a "Sandpit" instead of America and I would like some advice, especially being that his mom left me when my son died and I really need help for this.

Could any of you help me with what I should say? I've been busting my skull over this since last week.
