do we get flame throwers?

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 2:06 am

I think it would go better with explosives, because combustion is sort of like a bunch of small, controlled explosions.

Whoever wrote this articla at Wikipedia disagrees with you (not that I do, just sayin')

A directed-energy weapon (DEW) emits energy in an aimed direction without the means of a projectile. It transfers energy to a target for a desired effect. Some such weapons are real or in development; others are at present only science fiction.

The energy can come in various forms:

Electromagnetic radiation (typically lasers or masers).
Particles with mass (particle beam weapons).
Sound (sonic weaponry)
Heat

I would think they'd be in the game since they've been in every single game to date... at least I think they have been....

Doesn't heat refer more to heat rays and microwave rays than flamethrowers? Flamethrowers are "directed" I guess, but not by much.

No. I read that article last time we all had this debate and it actually named flamethrowers. But, hey. It's just some guy's (or gal's) opinion. It is Wikipedia after all. I feel it should be in explosives too, and am well on record of that fact. My rational is that it is an area effect weapon like all the explosives weapons are while most energy weapons are point effect. But, hey. I'm just some guy also.

Realistically you'd think you could, so long as you don't mind that gasoline taste.

"It's that smell- that gasoline smell. It smells like...victory."
-Colonel Kilgore, Apocalypse Now

But in terms of game mechanics- cooking will likely involve activating a campfire, just like activating a workbench to craft items- and a flamer probably won't serve as such an activation. (Pure supposition, but I'd almost bet on it.)

Mmm gasoline flavor...
Also to the Flamer being in energy weapons, I think any weapon that does not fire projectiles should be counted as an energy weapon

Sledgehammer?

You are being factitious, yet I am not sure if I should be insulted or not...
As any reason I say any weapon that can be called a gun (not melee, unarmed, or grenades and mines) and does not fire any projectiles (bullets, grenades, etc) should be counted as an energy weapon

But flamers are projectile weapons! The projectiles are fuel molecules that are ignited into a combustion reaction.

They could do it the same way they decided who could blow up a gas leak

Yeah we do, but if I remember they're oddly classed into energy weapons.
WHY.

If you want to be technical, fire creates heat energy that results from the combustion of fuel.

:flamethrower::shocking:<- Dude is getting shocked from the flames...

When in doubt, kill it with fire!!!

To the OP - wouldn't a campfire be a better way to cook your "meat"?

All a flamer is going to do is make them burnt to a crisp on the outside and raw on the inside... =p

Yep. Not saying it couldn't be done, only that I somewhat suspect it won't.

Also possible they could have various flammable debris that would work for cooking after you light it with a flamethrower. And that maybe you can/can't somehow light it otherwise, with the "can't" option almost sure to spark a big "OMG why can't we light fires without a flamer?" thread. All sorts of possiblities. :)
