Possible use of reputation system?

In FO3, it kinda irked me that some factions just threw themselves at you no matter what. Raiders, Talons, no matter how many of them you killed, word never seemed to get around that going up against you was suicidal. I got real tired of hearing that the Talons http://a.imageshack.us/img198/3469/iwantthisonesheadonafin.jpg. Yeah, they'd flee from you if you made a big enough show of force, but they don't recognize you as the scourge of their kind.

I read that some factions may give you tribute in exchange for mercy if they hate you and are powerless against you. Could this system be used to make cannon fodder filler factions like the Talons/Regulators and Raiders in FO3 flee from you if you approach?

I doubt you can rework stuff from Vegas into Fallout 3 since there is a noticeably difference how both work, even if they use the same engine.

Well, considering Talon Company is hired to keep the CW in disaray thats one reason, and apart from V15 in F2 and the Khans in F1 and The Pitt in F3, No raiders have ever been friendly to the PC.

That said, As I recall, being friendly with one faction could mean enemies with the other.

I hope the do learn from their mistakes on this one in a way. I loved the occasional run in with Talon Company, but it would get annoying whenever you'd walk across the street and there would be another group of those goons.

Raiders are not a single organization/faction as such though - more like indvidual groups of robbers and the like, so I don't think it's like everyone of them has heard of the player...

I read that some factions may give you tribute in exchange for mercy if they hate you and are powerless against you.

Where did you read this? Sounds sensible though - if you can 't win against your enemy, then either you try to get him to join you, join your enemy - or try to sue for peace. More sensible than throwing away hundreds of experienced men and valuable equipment at least...

Where did you read this?

It was from one of the more recent interviews.... I'm pretty sure I saw it on the front page of NMA.
