My teacher called his daughter Arwen. But that was in the 80s.

I firmly believe middle names should be slightly ridiculous, eccentric and/or embarrassing. Dovahkiin is a great middle name.

Mmm, I want my firstborn to have a nice underused Celtic/medieval/gothic name, like Cassidy or Virgil.

Believe me... kids -need- to be emotionally traumatized. It's like, part of the growing up process. If I hadn't been kicked around for the first half of my life... I wouldn't be nearly the sarcastic, cruel, heartless [censored] that I am now! What would I do without the big, bleeding hole in my chest, huh?

...that reminds me of a country rock *shudders* song called A Boy Named Sue, wherein the father knew he wouldn't be around to raise his son so he gave him a girly name so he'd learn to stand up for himself.

Then they meet each other decades later and beat the crap out of each other and get drunk. It's a lot like Skyrim.

First of all.... I really, really like the unique names far better than the normal (bland) names. My name... is Kayla. Do you know who I was named after? A character in a soap opera my mother watched while she was pregnant with me.... and do you know how many Kayla's there were that year.... a freaking lot. My husbands name is Jacob. Everyone knows ten Jacob's. We both agree that a name like Dovahkiin is perfectly fine. Besides, it is the attitude of the child that results in teasing, and even if it were because of the name, you teach your child to have pride in their name. Our first son is actually going to be named Uther; I think that the old, fantastical names add character to your kid, and shows that you put some thought into the name, rather than giving them the first average name that popped into your head.

And also, telling people that they are "scum" for wanting to give their kid a unique name is really kind of disgusting.

Im not sure what prize would be worthy enough to get your kid beat up every day of school because of his name.

why would he get beat up for having a different name...? i once saw a girl whos name was "la'a" wanna know how to pronounce it...ladasha yes dash as in -; they must not have been smart enough to realize that thats an apostrophe xD. anyway if my name was dovahkiin, i would tell people to call me dave :P

Yes. You'll be able to purchase as 1-2 DVD's and play out of the box, or you can opt for Steam if you like its features. It could be that you'll get a Steam key in the DVD version if you happen to want both without paying twice.

I hope so. I don't like Steam, and I am very unlikely to buy any game - even a TES game - if it was Steamworks-only for the PC.

EDIT: Hey, anyone else see the news about the parents in Egypt (?) that named their baby "Facebook"?

Offline mode is a joke. Annoying warning popups about offline mode and occasional times when offline mode goes back online without you letting it.

Calling people disgusting for thinking that people are scum for ruining their childs life is really kind of repulsive

(funny and true story; actually was pregnant at the end of January/ beginning of February, but I miscarried.... no joke, and he would have been born late October or early November. But not going though that again for a while... a long while so I think I will have to sit this "quest" out. Maybe for TES VI...... :P)

how is that funny in any way?

i dont think i've ever seen a mother LAUGH about something like that... the hell?

i mean, im pretty sick, twisted, and heavily demented... but i didnt think anyone else was that screwed up.

anyway... enough of that, is this whole thing a joke on bethesda's part? giving their games away free to a single person might not damage their profits THAT badly, its hardly much compared to the millions they'll sell to every time.

though, is "dovahkiin" really even a name? i thought it was a title... dragon language for "dragonborn"?

well, if its all real, good luck to whatever future person gets named "dovahkiin", its an awesome name, either way.

Thinking naming a child Dovahkiin would be "ruining their life" is really kind of repulsive.

yes. there is no spell check on a birth certificate. if you write qiyliopenoly in the given name line, that kids called ...what that said. you are perfectly capable of naming a child outside of a names dictionary. hell i'd give a kid that name just to see their teachers sweat trying to pronounce it on parent teacher nights.

I'd much rather go through life with a name like Dovahkiin than Moonbeam or Strawberry. Yes, my parents related the tale of some poor GUY who's parents named him Strawberry. This was before the big fad of name abuse in the 60s even. Poor kid couldn't wait til he was 18 and legally able to change the name.

Me, I'd have then turned around and had both parents committed for doing it once I came of age.

The sad thing is, someone will end up doing this. I would not name my child Dovahkiin if I was to be given superpowers, all the games I could ever want from anyone, immortality and immunity from the law.

...Altough if I were to get all those for doing so I would consider it. Breifly. :whistling:

Uh...what kind of superpowers are we talking about? Cause that is a legitimate reason.
Hell, it's not like the child couldn't get a name change later on, but yes Dovahkiin would definitely be "beat-me-up" name. Then again, the kid could go by a short like 'Don' or something.

Also lol at all the people worried about TES going Steam-only. That's a pretty crazy accusation. With the simple fact of it being cross-platform that alone defeats the idea of it being a download-only game. It's just that the games are on Steam as is if you want to download and the pass would let you continue to download them from there- ie. for free and not going to the store (see: for free), etc
