Anyway to check which mod is missing a file?

Post » Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:52 pm

So I started the game, been playing for a few. Easy pete(?) finally showed up in his chair outside the bar and he is engulfed in a red exclamation, which TMU usually mean a missing texture? Is there any program i can use to check which mod is missing the file it needs?

Red exclamation marks mean missing meshes (missing textures show up as solid purple), and if you can see him in the middle of it, and educated quess would be that his weapon, hair or clothing is the culprit. As for a program, none exists AFAIK. It would be handy though.

You could try opening the console, selecting the red diamond to see the ID at the top of the screen. Being a mod it should start with two numbers or a number and letter. (If it starts with all zeros you've likely selected a dust mote, so use the mouse wheel to scroll up or down to get the objects behind it). It might even show the name of the missing object (not sure on that). Note those two digits then go into FOMM (or Wrye Flash, whichever you use) and match it up to the mod in your load order.

Thanks guys, I figured out what mod was causing it. It was the armor by race( part of the body by race mod ) mod. Heres the weird thing, I moved ABR up the load list above BBR and the exclamation disappeared on easy pete yet it remains on the powder ganger?

What about a program that tells you which mods are conflicting with one another?

IIRC, There was one written for Oblivion, there hasn't been one written for FONV.

I would suggest, in your case, to remove all the mods, including the stuff in your textures and meshes folder,
find some tutorials on how to use mods, and also read the readme.txt that come with each mod, and
one-by-one, add mods to your game, until you get comfortable with adding mods to your game.

I'm trying to be helpful here, as it sounds like you're new to using mods, and if you're
having trouble with missing meshes and/or textures, you're probably installing them into the wrong folder etc etc

So, best to start over, and manually keep track (if you have to) of the mods you install, and as I said,
take it slow, install each mod one by one, go into the game, verify the mod is working, quit the game
and add another mod.

You could very well be using conflicting mods that overwrite each others textures and meshes also.

FNVEdit tells you about the conflicts.

Appreciated the advice razor but I'm not new to add mods. I know which file when active is causing the problem by conflicting with another mod. There are no missing meshes or textures.
