Do werewolves age?

Post » Tue Nov 23, 2010 2:43 pm

Hi, I was just wondering if werewolves die of old age or do they stay young forever like vampires? And if they age, do they become weaker with age or do they become stronger? Thanks :)

It's not really known. Personally, I think they have the natural life span as the mortal they are. In otherwords, depending on health and such, a dunmer werewolf would live as long as a dunmer, an orc werewolf would live as long as an orc, etc.

They live slightly longer, but I'm pretty sure they do age. I don't remember the exact words Heart-Fang says, but I found the journal note about it.

I told Heart-Fang that, as there could only be one survivor in this deadly game, I could not work with him. He responded that he alone would survive this Hunt, and that it was his birthright to do so. Apparenty, Heart-Fang has the Ring of Hircine, and has used its magic to prolong his life and rule the Skaal for generations. Now, he claims I will have to face him in his "true form."
- Journal Note, Bloodmoon.

Now that isn't conclusive, as perhaps the ring also prolongs life as another effect, but it seems likely that being a werewolf extends a person's life(Until some champion decides to kill them of course).

That's actually kind of funny, given that Hircine's Ring was also available to the hero of Daggerfall.

Then again, asking for side-quest continuity between games is a bit much. ;)

A more depressing possibility could be that werewolves live as long as wolves do.

But if a a werewolf would sustain injuries in wolf form, would they carry over to the human (or whatever) form and vice versta?

My guess would be yes. Why wouldn't they? Metamorphisizing doesn't magicaly heal them, I'd assume.

If i didnt heal them, then werewolves that were injured would probably die (or be seriously wounded) as soon as they changed back to the norm. I mean a half inch deep gash may be nothing to a werewolf, but to a human thats pretty serious.

They DO have the regenerate health ability though, so maybe their wounds would just heal. They do have that ability, don't they? Or was it just a gameplay mechanic?

Unfortunately, every game we get a book on Vampires (who usually are ingame) but not on Werebeasts.

Ah, but that was Hircine's Ring, the Shield. Its effects were similar, but not the same as Hircine's ring, the ring. :)

There were some apparently ancient werwolves under the Glacier, in Hircine's lair. Some of these were statues, possibly made of ice, until magically activated.

Perhaps the original Werewolves were "pure forms" or Daedra of some sort, who would logically live eternally. Maybe the human variant came later, and maybe the accelerated healing can actually slow or reverse aging of the regular human who gets the disease. I can imagine this would be a more natural means of preserving the flesh than what the Telvanni or some Necromancers do, but perhaps no less potent.

I suspect, however, that even with an extended life span most Werewolves meet the sharp end of a Crusader's silver sword sooner or later.

The mental anguish of being a bloodthirsty, pyschotic werewolf would probably drive them crazy and that might lower lifespan possibly?

It is my understanding that Werewolves live as long as a mortal and a wolf combined.
Also, if a were is injured in wolf form, the injury would transmute and turn into an equal injury for the human.
Example, a werewolf can survive a half-inch gash easily, cause they are werewolves, but when they turn into a human again,
the injury becomes something that a human could survive easily.

Another axample: Half-inch gash in werewolf form = paper cut in human form.
