Is there a maximum number for active quests?

Could someone add more details? Why is it so / How many can I have with my specs / anything else important?
Of course I assume he's talking about quest mods, like Origin of the Mage Guild, Kvatch Rebuilt or Kvatch Aftermath, Lost Spires and so on.

My PC specs:
Dual Core 3GHz
4 GB RAM DD3
GeForce 9800GTX (512 MB)

Thanks!

You can have more than five. That post sounded like it was offering a stability advice. Your CPU is fine. I have an E8500 running at the stock 3.0GHz, and I have more than five quest mods installed. It seems that it would matter more how many active quests you have running in-game (as in, in your quest log.) If a quest's data is not loaded (i.e., the quest is not active in your profile and you have not interacted with the quest's related NPCs) it does not matter if it is installed. It is not affecting performance then.

I've had way more than 5 active, so I don't know where he got that info. It simply isn't true. I really wouldn't worry about it. Even if there is a performance hit from too many quests, which I strongly doubt, it's going to be very negligible.

The biggest, performance-worrisome mod-type-specific limit is companions, even in the vanilla game. As you add companions you can count on FPS drops. I stick with one, and my personal limit is two. Two is for fun; one is to play. Having some sort of troop following you is death to FPS (not to mention, that sounds like a good way to make the game a cake-walk...unless you are role-playing a character that does not fight I guess...)

I don't play with companions. I'd play with an horde of summons like the necro build in pve diablo 2, but oblivion is not a game where I feel that tactic would turn out to be fun.
I guess I should be fine :D

That just sounds like an exercise in frustration to me frankly. I don't like companions or followers of any sort, they just end up getting in the way.

You need to be more friendly Belanos, haha. :P I do not mind babysitting a bit. Plus, I love both of my characters. My PC's first major step is always to go pick up his primary companion. I hope that combat fix means she will stop wiping him out with lightning-based blasts... ^____^
